Good Morning! :hattip: Saturday on a Labor Day weekend! :goingcrazy:

Anyone living in small town rural America that has a seasonable draw knows these types of holiday weekends find the roads clogged end to end making the 5 minute run to the Hardware Store, Supermarket or Transfer station an hour long affair. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else :oldglory:

I hope everyone has a safe and excellent holiday weekend. May tragedy that so often marks weekends like this avoid your family and friends.

I’m sure they’ll pop in but this is what @RustyGreen and @koditten had to say when I brought up lifts last month:

I did the initial sanding with 600 grit on a random orbit palm sander, and the polishing was done with a 9” 3600 rpm buffer from harbor freight. I bought the polish kit somewhere online, it came with everything I needed, two pads, rouge, polish, microfiber pads, and the 600 grit sandpaper. Then once everything was as good as I could get it I put shark hide on as a protectant.

Yup, that’s the one I bought, I made a 3” extension to bring the buffer wheel out away from the head.

Good morning shop crew, we made it to Saturday! Enjoy the holiday weekend!

It was a busy, full day with the grandkids for me yesterday. No time for TW.

Re. The poll, been near/involved in a few lighting strikes while on the water with the Coast Guard.

The most spectacular was a direct hit on the 41' SAR boat I was driving. We were headed out on a missing boater call so we were operating in thunderstorms and rough seas. As we headed into a squall line we saw some air to water strikes within a couple of miles of us. Minutes later for a split second the entire crew felt our hair stand on end then there was an incredible, ear hurting boom and a brilliant flash of light like a welding arc. It covered the entire boat and left us all seeing spots and ringing ears.

After a few choice words I checked on the crew, we were all OK. Motors were still running, radar and a couple of my radios were blank. There was magic smoke coming from the AM radio which was off because we normally didn’t use it. We checked for fire there and didn’t find any so we disconnected all the wires and kept an eye on it. I was able to get my main radio working and reported our situation, they told us to return to base which was fine with us.

Back at the station we found the strike hit the top of the AM antenna which was about 25' tall. It left scorch marks across the roof of the cabin to the radar dome and down to the handrail and side of the hull to the waterline. Other than the radios and radar no more damage to the boat. We all had an entry in our medical files for “electrocution and possible hearing loss”.
