Sorry you experienced this. Likely to see more and more of this type of issue as time goes by, unfortunately.

The dealership did say I can have it towed through Toyota Care but when told them the warning light said "visit dealership" they said it's up to me whether to drive in or not. I was 5 minutes away and opted to "visit Dealership" seeing that service department didn't seem too concerned or if it was something they were concerned with they would say do not drive it. I'm sure they will hold that against me

Definitely not the company they used to be. You are smart to wait. I went against my golden rule of never buying the first year any vehicle. Learned the hard way with a Land Rover many years ago. I know I have a fight ahead of me.

Nah, this is not on you. And you don’t have to disclose anything to them. Just say “truck broke” and that’s it. It’s 2 weeks old. Nothing can be put on you unless you poured sand into crank case

You very likely won’t need one. Once you’re past 30 days … it’s a closed case in your favor. You literally can’t do anything before hand, unless your dealer is ready and willing to hand you the keys to a new truck.

We will see. I don't trust those pricks at the dealership at all. They are crooks but have to deal with them if you want to drive a new car all the time.

I know I have to sit here and wait and the more I research the more I see this will be a long and drawn out situation. If the business manager finally calls back I will I want a new truck will not take this one back... we will see how they return fire

I wouldn't want this truck back either. If they have to rebuild or replace the engine it will never be the same! Factory engine install vs dealership engine install are 2 very different levels of quality control.

Hang in there for that so sad and frustrating news. If Toyota is involved early you likely up your chance of the dealer not being daft with a repair. Again, best wishes!

Was all hot to buy a new ‘24, now after some research, not so sure. Believe they’ll iron everything out, will take some time.

Shooooot everyone knows you should admire a Land Rover from a far, and buy a Land Cruiser instead, though might not be the case anymore since it shares the new platform.

Eh I don’t know, depends what tech gets the job. My wife’s Corolla cross had a massive oil leak from the filter brand new. Dealer pulled the engine and replaced the upper oil pan assembly. Massive job. I opened the hood and couldn’t tell anything was disturbed under the car or up top under the hood. Only sign it was fixed was the black sealer the dealers are required to use opposed to the grey sealer the factory uses. 17k miles later and never had a problem since

I'm a full time mechanic and I can promise you no matter how careful a dealer tech is, the quality level is not the same. If I looked in your engine bay I can point out evidence it's been worked on.

I’m a professional automotive collision repair tech, believe me it’s about as perfect as it can get. Even the hose clamps are put back on the original spot

Update: Just got a call from sales manager who I dealt with when I bought it. We spoke yesterday and he said he will call me Tuesday. Wondered why he'd call today with no news. It's because I have left a friendly message for the business manager yesterday and a more serious one today and both have been ignored. I'm sure she handed it off to the sales manager to shut me up. So I told him if its a blown engine I will not take the same truck back with a dealer installed replacement and either a new truck or make me whole and I will decide from there. Asked for my trade in back and he said that won't happen... was worth a shot! I will know more after my truckless weekend. Oh.... and still no way they will give me a loaner. I put car dealers in the same place I put most lawyers .... pieces of sh*t with no conscience.

I went through a buyback process before so I know the feeling and it sucks. FYI the dealer is under no obligation to give you a loaner. They purely do it out of courtesy. I think a lot of people don’t know this. A dealership may give you a loaner, the good ones usually do, but they don’t have to. But that being said, if you have to rent a car, keep your receipts for the buyback process. Most states make the company pay for rental fees if incurred as a result of the repair time.

Thank you... good to know. I understand the dealership may have a policy but doing the right thing is my policy!
