2021 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4:

If I'm rolling at a slow speed around 5-15mph, and then give it some gas to accelerate, there seems to be a delay with the engine receiving gas. I feel nothing for a second or 2, then it will kick in and I'll feel a slight jerk forward.

Any ideas or TSBs out there on this?

    Thank you!

    the truck is probably downshifting.

i play with mine. it's like a neutral drop, but while rolling.

Have you ever greased your u-joints? I had this problem at 70k miles and when I greased them it fixed it. I don't think this truck has ever had that done.

@Guaco_Taco Is your truck tuned? I frequently experience this same thing with the OTT tune... always thought it was just a throttle mapping oversight.

Interesting that this fixed it for you, perhaps a separate issue altogether? I think it feels more software than mechanical. Regardless just wanted to add that the later 3Gs transitioned away from greasable U-joints to a closed system (my 2022 as example).

This is getting kind of off topic from the OP but I was experincing a jerky acceleration from a dead stop. Then one day I'm sitting at a red light with my foot on the break and the truck kind of jumped/lurched forward. I happen to be watching a video of this guys 150k mile review of his 4runner and he mentioned having to grease the ujoints regularly or he would get that jump at the stop light.

Greased the ujoints and it fixed the issue. I was worried it was my trans, maybe my tune, but if it was my tune then it'd be all the time I'd assume. Anyway I guess the ujoint would bind up and i'd get a sudden jerk I guess. There was next to no grease purged when I filled it up.

Mine does the same thing. I have the KD Max 10 tune. ( I don’t like it either, considering OTT)
