Finally dropped some dough on 4 new Autel sensors. The mechanic told me it had to be that brand bc he had scanner for them. Got them in and light is still on. I'm thinking the ECM is expecting 5 sensors. I'm the second owner of this 08 Taco, and idk if it suppose to have one but definitely does not and that's the way mechanic ran the procedure (4) sensors. Any help appreciated fellas, thanks!

I think 08 was still set up for 5 sensors.

If it is you can set the 5th sensor ID to all 0s and it shouldn't look for the 5th sensor.

I was with the mechanic when he did procedure and the scanner asked if there was 5th. We verified and he selected no and ran it as 4.

You need to replace the TPMS module in the spare. Inputting all 0's or F's will not work.

Most tire places will install and program new sensors for free when you buy new tires, Rock Auto has Denso OE sensors for around $36 ea.
That's what I did last time I got new tires even though mine were still working a couple showed low batteries so I bought new sensors off Rock Auto and had them installed with the new tires.

I just got new tires and replaced the TPMS since they were the originals. After we programmed the new sensor the light stayed on until we pressed the TPMS reset button under the steering wheel. Once we did that the light turned off.

I buy them in 4 packs from Amazon. Price varies between $40-$60 for 4. Unfortunately, you need a 5th one for the spare and a single is almost as much as a 4 pack. Around $30-$40.

    Amazon.com: Tpms Sensors

Any tire store will break down the tires and replace the sensors for about $10 each, or do it free when mounting new tires.

I've bought 4 sets of them over the years and all have worked perfectly. They typically last 7-10 years but I've seen some last as long as 14. I don't wait until mine die. I buy new sensors with every other set of tires and have them installed when mounting the new tires.

That means I'm getting new sensors every 6-8 years. I'd rather replace them a little early than have do deal with them dying. Cost is less than 1 tank of gas every 6-8 years. No reason not to keep working sensors.

I recently replaced my 4 sensors with Autel MX (duplicated original IDs). The light would come back on even after pressing the button. I discovered that the old sensors should stay at least 30 ft. away (my old ones were in the center console). Tossed the old ones in the trash and the light stayed off.
