Yet other manufacturers are able to keep cost a little lower.

I’ve been looking over my truck and I think the quality issues are overblown. I’m seeing far better interior soft materials, better knobs, double glass, generally feels tight and ultra smooth, and like I mentioned earlier the tape in the engine I think is the same as the third gen but you just can’t see it. I’m biased in that I just bought a TH. But I think the concerns are oveblown.

If you're bored, get familiar with lifting rear seat to access the battery. I'd hate to learn it on the side of the road during storm.

You boost from the junction box up front, but the 12v battery is under the seat and requires trim clips to be removed first. Kinda dumb but they want people to stay out of it.

Truck should still function with no hybrid so why would I be learning it on the side of the road. - or do you mean battery to start engine

^Yep, the 12V battery is moved to the cabin in hybrid models. The space under the hood is taken up by the inverter.

As it should be at that trim level. Lower levels have some noticeable corners cut. If we are honest with ourselves, we don’t buy Toyotas for luxury interiors, they always have been on the lowend side of quality, were basic and cheap feeling. We do however buy them for the legendary reliability.

Toyota will make it right. Getting too old to wait around anymore. Have been waiting for decades for them to improve on somethings, and they have largely ignored them. Fuel economy and payload mainly. Then watch them load the trucks with a bunch stuff no one really needs. It is like their target market is Instagram influencers now. Like that TRDJon guy is suddenly now an overlander, dude admitted he never really off-roaded before. ummm, ok right there is the target market. Forget us bread-n-butter faithful.

Fair comment. I got the TH because it’s fun. Don’t need it. That said there are other trim packages available. Even manual. Or leaf springs.

Yep, do understand that part of the buying demographic demands a high spec vehicle, I get it.

There are other trims available, however can’t get the combination I want. Access Cab OR manual, 1600 lbs payload, (my old 1st Gen was 1600#), linked rear. It simply doesn’t exist, nor anything comes close.

Thought with the boxed frame, payload would greatly increase, it didn’t even on the leaf spring models.

30 mpg would be awfully nice too.

No squeaks, rattles, groans, or whistles on mine. Feels like one unit. Materials look and feel good. Tactile buttons for the AC. Big huge beefy round knobs. Went over the paint with my now cataract developing eyes. All good. Tailgate slightly misaligned to the right by a coupla pubic hairs. Im' good with that. Bed aligned. Yeah, build quality still good.

Yep, would be fairly happy with a 70 series.

Watching over the years nothing improve on the what I deem important, all the while seeing them degrade the usefulness in favor of comfort. Payload went down over the years, fuel tank is smaller with the latest gen thus decreasing range. I question some of the engineering decisions. All of their passenger car vehicles get stellar fuel economy, uncertain why Toyota chose to chase the power wars with the Hybrid Tacoma instead of focusing on efficiency, especially in today’s environmental conscious trends.

The DCLB OR would certainly work, still no manual, then start comparing size and price. Hard not to look at 1/2 Tons.

If I was in the market for a TH, probably just pony up the extra cash and get a Rivian. That truck feels more polished and lux to me.

Id be trolling myself if it were a troll post. I exaggerated (not on purpose) and I fixed the few loose ones. Apologies to everybody. I think the few places I saw it unraveling freaked me out.

According to the Car Care Nut, it's 288 volts. Not something you wanna be monkeying with.
