He just said his trans will get up to 240+ and engine he said highest he has seen is 220 on the UG. He did say if he turns hid ac off it does drop the temps slightly but not exactly the weather you want to be driving in with no AC.

I can't speak to towing, as a I do little of that. I remain happy, however, with and stock cooling and a 2.5" pulley on mine - it works well to compensate for the elevation where I live and generally drive (~5K ft - ~8K ft). When hauling a load on a hot day, I've seen engine temps crest just over 200 degrees. I have a 6MT, so don't normally monitor trans temps.

Nice! Hit me up, and we can grab a beer or whatever. I live in San Mateo, so if you're down this way, you're not far off. You're probably mountain biking in my backyard with some of my neighbors.

Damn sorry to hear about the stud. I need to look into mine. No issues yet but seems like only a matter of time.

I tow 3,500 lbs with a 2.8 pulley and stock cooling. My truck is heavy and I'm running 33" tires on stock gearing.

I live at 4,500 ft and when it gets hot I am usually towing off road between 6 and 10k ft and moving at slower speeds so I don't get the benefit of the airflow that you have on the freeway.

It gets hot but I haven't seen coolant temps above the low 230s.

Thanks, yeah that’s too warm to be without AC or blasting the heat to try and cool things down.
Thanks for chiming in Steve, I have heard that the 2.5 is good for elevation, but I think I might resist the urge to downsize and just leave things alone.. I really don’t want to have cooling problems and the truck pulls just fine with the 2.8
Thanks for sharing your experience on the subject. That is a pretty good comparison. The 230s would have me in a mild panic though..

How long ago did you add your blower? I remember reading one of your posts in another thread where you were towing a tandem axle TT when still n/a. Did you ever tow that with the SC?

A few things I neglected to mention... First, @JustDSM tuned my truck, so I know it's setup right. Second, when I said just over 200 degrees, I meant no higher than about 205. She generally runs around 185 degrees, plus/minus few. Third, I only see increased temps when under a bit of load (e.g., a slow, steady hill climb) and A/C running.

FWIW, I suspect you'll be happy either way.

I agree. Check that whole setup regularly. Every oil change is a great interval.

Looking at the way it’s designed, that bracket needs more support. Is basically just hanging off of those two long studs and then has that one little bracket over to the compressor. That’s it. Seems under built to me. I’ll stare at it some more in a couple weeks when I’m back in PHX. There’s got to be a way to beef it up by adding another bracket or two.

I’d also like to work with @Athlaos on my idea for keeping those studs from backing out. Perhaps we can come up with a 2.0 version that includes a couple of additional pieces to get that assembly good and solid.

yah hard to say. I know with 2.8 I had all sorts of cooling issues. I think a big part was the CSF was not sealing well. But once I add a better trans cooler with a fan it was good or way better.

Thanks guys. I’ll be headed down to Menlo Park this weekend to visit the bike shop I bought the bike from. (Woodside Bike Shop) Perhaps we could meet up then.

Yeah, my old trailer was 5,500lbs loaded but I didn't have the blower then. Transmission temps were higher on average with the old trailer on pavement (didn't tow it off road). The only time I see 230° coolant is in 4lo on extended steep climbs (mile+ long climbs) when it's 100° out and the ac is running. When the trail levels off the temp drops quickly so I assume it's is partially due to the transmission cooler bleeding heat into the radiator.

I think if you're towing that weight on pavement it shouldn't be an issue.

    Thanks Bill.

I was hoping to find a no-mod solution. But, if that’s the best option these days… I’ll consider it.

I should be the one thanking you Jake. My 2.5 pulley was slipping like hell, and your wrap mod worked fantastic in eliminating that problem. I got renewed incentive to start driving the truck again and making more improvements, so thank you very much!
On a side note, I had an rpm belt on it, but felt these belts may be a contributing factor in stud breakage due to their not stretching during sudden engine load changes. It’s just an unproven theory of mine, although the plus side is I haven’t noticed any seat of the pants drivability differences between the fleetrunner and rpm belts.

I have been thinking the same. I had a fleet runner on their first but likely due to a bad cut I had the belt almost come off and switched to the Stock length RPM but with all these issues considering going back to the fleet runner.

Still seeing 10s with 2.7 pulley and methanol. Pulls strong without much heatsoak anymore.

Should I just keep getting smaller pulleys until my a/f gets a little leaner? Lol

The stoichiometric AFR of the methanol injected throws off the AFR reading so it's richer than it would be without methanol injection.
