Genetic “Taco Lean”

Here is an interesting one. I’m my brand new TH, with nearly a full tank (which is on the right side), my truck has a slight driver side lean (half inch?). Is this some diabolical 3G genetic defect my truck inherited despite the tank being right sided? At this point I am just noticing small things TW style. But genuinely curious if anyone else has this issue or if I should get my suspension looked at / adjusted.

Thought about that but not sure how weight is distributed on that. Need to figure out how to lift up the chairs. I just got this thing Saturday. That was one of my thoughts. Also wondering if Toyota over compensated for the fuel tank on the suspension but it may not be that complicated. It may just be manufacturing variance.

 

I've seen corner weighted solo2 cars that every corner was a different dimension. Street cars set for drag racing with one side higher than the other for torque compensation

Sometimes weight distribution is more valuable than looks. It's one reason trucks come with rake. So you can haul and tow better.

 

My 2013 Tundra had a lean… didn’t effect anything and honestly didn’t notice it. The only way I noticed was because I measured before and after the lift was installed.

Haven’t measured my Tacoma and probably won’t until I install a lift… If it has a lean I can’t tell.

Taco lean predates the 3rd gen. The clip on the 2nd gen TRD pro front shocks was positioned to eliminate the lean. Didn't matter. Tacos with this set up still had lean on the tank side.

May you be lucky and your 4th gen inherited the 2nd gen's legendary longevity.

 

All 2nd and 3rd gen tacomas had different spring rates left to right, Toyota was aware of the weight, it just didnt calculate long term wear very well.

Ultimately no truck is perfectly even side to to side, but the 4th gen should be better than the leaf spring trucks of old.

 

The tank is right side. One theory is that they are compensating so that over time it doesn’t get too saggy on the right. As of now the right side is still a little taller even on full tank.

 

Pay less attention to meaningless details and try to enjoy your new truck

 

Your rationality and reasonableness confuse me.

 

Anytime I spend way too much on something (which I did here), I get super critical about anything I find in it because my expectations are too high. My third gen was a much less stressful purchase. I was on the fence about a super low miles 2023 pro and this.. and I just went with this knowing this would happen (many people will say I should bought the 23 but anyway). After a while though, I accept all the little flaws and move on.

 

So my wheels were locked to the right when I did the measurement — I straightened them out and it’s move even now. That may have to do with it. Either way it’s irrelevant. Just fyi.
