What’s up yall I’m a new member here on taco world and just started my own fab business. Was thinking about projects I could do my self to promote it and have always like the idea of sequential turbos would be sick on my 6 speed man. Gen 3. I figured since there’s plenty of people smarter than me someone has to have an idea what to do haha if any yall want new custom fab parts hit me up!

just straight up twins make more sense. actually before covid there was a production twin turbo kit for these utilizing factory ecboost turbos.

I've done sequentials on other vehicles, it would be a bit hard with a 3rd Gen if you kept the stock computer because sequentials require valve for pre spool and mixing. If you ditched the stock computer you'd lose a lot of other features too so not sure I'd do that personally. Regular twins is a much more realistic task and the difference in spool time will be negligible with modern turbos anyway.

Thanks guys this sounds like a much easier project! I was thinking using the Sequentials because like I said, my Tacoma is a six speed manual. But if a couple little twins will work that’s siiiiiick. The goal is to able to fit and put together a custom turbo package I can pump out for all my taco family! I guess the next question is good advice for recourses I research from. Thanks guys!

Two small ones to spool faster or one larger one with variable vanes would get your output where you want it a whole lot easier then a sequential set up. Turbo lag is always a complaint when you go big on a single turbo, hence the shift to two smaller ones or a variable vane setup.

What does a manual transmission have to do with that?

I am going to bet part of it has to do with emission RPM drop lag between shifts to keep emissions to a reasonable level.

It was already an issue to the point some people bypassed the mech that slowed the RPM drop between shift on the manuals.

With the high CR is this engine really a good candidate?

It's not a bad candidate if you're making appropriate use of the direct injection. BMWs M3 engines from the last couple generations utilize a high compression ratio and lots of forced induction because you can drastically minimize ping with multi event GDI spraying and other neat tactics.

1st -2nd gear you gotta give her gas and Ashe ain’t the quickest off the line so if I can get just a little more boost that would be nice. Plus if I figure out how to do it right I can do it for others!

If I can find a good combo of quality small turbos and I’m assuming I quality software I have to plug into the computer for inspection purposes (I’m a NY resident) so nothing tells Uncle Sam wtf I’m doing CAUSE ITS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!!! Hahaha dinosaurs died and tacos were made for a reason hahaha

I think he was asking why you think a sequential turbo is specific to a manual transmission.

No lift to shift makes for some pretty spicy action.
