Hey i have a 98 taco, v6 4wd. I was replacing the oil today, about my 10th time, and i bump against the line that is just above the oil filter. I noticed more liquid come out at a quick rate, so i tried to push the cable against the mounting and it appeared to slow down the rate of liquid. The liquid coming out is yellowish.

I am curious what the thicker, about a 2" thick line above the oil filter, is. I assume maybe the tube attachment has come loose or just needs to be replaced, but i would like to KNOW what it is before i f*** with it.

almost 300k so i want to keep it going, want that 300 and 400 sticker....

On most 5vz, there’s an oil cooler next to oil filter

Could be the oil cooler hose leaking.

Thanks. The leak is from that for sure. I took the line off today and see a coupler in there that looks like it has corroded so it wasnt clamped down to anything. However now i am trying to find a coupler/figuring out whats up with that right now

    Man
Seeing how this could fail while your driving and complete loss of oil would damage engine
I would just bite the bullet and buy new oil cooler
    A fix too risky IMO

Let me ask you @ControlCar, I found a diagram so i can actually show you which part looks bad. I have circled the part, it looks to be on the engine itself. The line looks fine its whatever it connects to. i think my original thought was wrong. I am thinking its shop time.

Not sure but I just wanted to say that the Toyota parts digrams have always been garbage. Always have and I have never understood why.

That outlet is part of the water pump.

i just did a little more looking i thought it went into the engine, it goes into a part the radiator hooks into. Did a little more research and its the part that houses the thermostat. Attached a photo from a youtube video and circled the part its connecting to. If you look in-between the housing and the hose there is a connector, this has rusted off. Trying to find the name of hte unit. Searched for thermostat housing and it just gives me the front part that is removed. For reference here is the video

I feel like i am getting close but think im done for the night

Just to update this and put a button on it.

Wound up the water pump fell apart, which is essentially a timing belt kit. I tried doing the procedure myself and got to the point where i couldnt get the crank bolt off without risk of breaking it. At that point i found someone who did the job, with the parts i bought, for about 2000, a little under.

Hope this helps one person out there
