New Falken Wildpeak AT4W ????

    My best guess is every has their own thoughts on acceleration and braking but with 285 75 16, skids, sliders, winch, camper shell, bed full of stuff, three passengers, the trailer, and chicken coup (built out of heavy good wood) the truck got up to 60 smoothly, quickly, and braked with no issues either. I'm impressed with our trucks. I use to have a Silverado with a v8 that would have to Rev over 3000 rpm to really get up to speed. I barely ever get the tacoma over 2000 rpm.

    Maybe you need to drive a stock '66 Beetle. There was a vehicle that couldn't get out of it's own way. And once you got it going, Fred Flintstone could out-brake you!

    People have unrealistic expectations. I didn't buy a Porsche 911, I bought a Tacoma. Back in the day, it was an affordable, small truck. Today, it's not. But it's not a POS either. A Tacoma will hustle around the roads well enough. And when you take it off road, it will impress with how capable it is.

    I've hauled plenty with mine as well and it's done just fine. Could have been better but also could have been worse. I was happy it handled what I threw at it but I sure would have preferred if it did better! I mean, how can you not wish for more/better? But realistically, I can't afford better because that would mean buying a brand new, $80k truck - yikes!

    No thanks on that Beetle. That's an apples to steaks comparison anyway so absolutely pointless. Not at all saying our trucks aren't great for what they are and for the era they were designed and produced. But by modern standards our trucks just barely keep up. I'm just saying there's no reason to bash people for wanting more or trying to be smart about the purchases they make. Specifically, why would you have a problem with someone trying to maximize benefit when they mod their truck. No one here is delusional enough to think saving a few pounds of weight from their tire is going to turn their truck into a 911. Again, stupid comparison. But if they can save a few pounds and receive a minor improvement in mpg or improved driving feel - how is that a bad thing?

    They're not stupid comparisons and the weight affecting your gas mileage and driving feel is in your head. I just went to taller, much heavier tires and my gas mileage actually went up. The weight is as much a factor as your butt dyno telling you you've gotten big improvements out of an air filter and a silicone intake tube. I'm not putting anyone down for wanting more, or maximizing their benefit. I've modded the hell out of my truck to get more. I'm just saying let's be realistic.

    265/75/16 S/T Maxx 16X8.5 Level 8 Trackers 5100 1.75 HID, LED interior, 3" N-Fab step bars
    I recently went from Cooper St Maxx "E" at 55lbs to Falken AT3 Wildpeak "SL" at 43.9lbs, both 265/75/16 and I saw ZERO improvement in mileage (and I have tracked religiously for years with the Fuelly app). I will say the SL rides much smoother and it has a noticeable "pep" (more responsive acceleration).

    I wish some scientist/engineer from a tire company would put this weight/mileage issue to rest once and for all. While I believe weight is a factor in mileage, I think it is diminishing returns.....its a bigger factor when you are going from smaller stock sissy tires to much larger off road tires. But once you have aftermarket tires there is a minimal difference in mileage you see going from up or down 10lbs. Again just my own personal theory.

    But lets get back on topic of Falken Wildpeaks AT4W

    If I can continue the derailment for a few sentences just to add my 2 cents…I went from General Grabber ATXs (52 pounds) to same size Maxxis Razr MT’s (57 pounds) and it did not affect my gas mileage at all. So all terrain tire to a heavier mud tire, same size, MPGs stayed the same. The size is LT265/75/16 and they were both E rated tires.

    I will mention that I did consider the AT4W very heavily before making the switch to Maxxis. There I mentioned the AT4W’s so my post is on topic lol

    Apparently you lucked out somewhere. Most of us are getting worse gas mileage with bigger, heavier tires. I know I am and many, many others here are experiencing the same thing. But, to your point, and those other posts above - there are LOTS of factors involved, lots of variables so everyone's situation is different. These people are being realistic. Your comparisons are the unrealistic ones.

    285/70R17 @ 57lbs ---> 265/75R16 @44lbs ---> 255/85R16 @55lbs ---> 255/85R16 @59lbs

    Has anyone had balancing issues with these? Specifically in a 265/75/16 SL? I was about to pull the trigger on these today but read on tirerack reviews of people with tacomas getting a weird wobble at over 50mph after putting around 1500 miles on these tires. Any info is greatly appreciated. I am currently running worn out Toyo at3s and really would like to try something new.

    255/85/16 on mine. No issues balancing. No wobbles. I also saw a review like that. My guess is it's probably more of a tire shop thing versus a Falken thing.

    you know i have wild peaks on the wife's Subaru and I made them line up the dots on the face after taking them back in to be re balanced a couple times. minimal weights now and the car feels less "bouncy" when you first take off

    I just completed a 2500+ mile round trip from California to Texas and back on 265/75r16 E tires and with the exception of when I was on poorly maintained roads they had no problem going speeds up to 75mph

    To be honest, I’m not sure I ever went above 75. Just getting up to 75 to keep up with traffic was a struggle. It’s really got considering the OTT tune and possible regear

    What are you running for add-ons and weight? I’m on 265/75/16 with only about 300lbs of andd-ons and a roof rack. Tuned and zero issues holding 75-80 on Texas highways. Throw in a good headwind or hill and it’ll start dropping gears, but can still hold that.

    I’ve only got Diamondback HD cover which is approximately 110-120lbs maybe, plus on this trip I had all of my camping gear which may have added another 100lbs give or take. Plus my weight, 300lbs. I should add that on flat roads I didn’t have much problem maintaining speed. It’s was the climbs on mountain roads, which I purposefully drove on for the “scenic route” that the Tacoma was struggling
