You know what was great about the 80s? Comact Trucks Toyotas, Hard bodies, S-10s Mitsubishi and the rebaged Chryslers, and the Ford Ranger, Ranger's Kleenex box inspired design, it even came in the same colors as the tissue box itself.

I could be wrong, but the Ranger I, was the only truck styled like it's big brother F-Series the lines on the Ranger looked identical to F-150, Ranger did have that veritical Pinto like front side marker that didn't look as cool as the 1/2 tons horizontal side marker recessed into the upper fender. Like most trucks the square cab was used on the much more curvy Ranger ll.

Those weren’t a bad looking little truck. Seeing a lot teenage kids driving around in 70s-80s full-size pickups recently. They are over the moon about them, and here I am thinking they were POS when they were new. Toyotas weren’t though, it was just when the legend started, hearing stories of them getting, 300, 400, 500K miles on them. What peaked my interest in the brand, while American trucks could barely get to 100K.

I posted this in a different thread yesterday but I saw sticker shock mentioned in a few posts, so I might as well share these pics here as well since some of you might be interested …$90K for a Land Cruiser. Absolutely insane. Might as well put a good down payment on a home for that price.

I have tendencies to seem grumpy...but I see how our Site Lead (who is 65) always uses age as a leverage to make a point.

My eyes are open and I don't want to go down that street...as I see/hear what He says and how it affects me.

I grew up in L.A. in the 80s. (And I don't mean, Lower Alabama! lol)

School dances in Jr High (1979-82) and Discotechs in HS after Football Games (1982-85).

Lots of "ditching parties" in Jr High and High School Nights in El Monte and Hollywood discotechs.

Both our daughters were forced to listen to my 80s mixed tapes/burned CDs in their younger years; friend's parents were impressed with our kids knowledge/recognition of songs from that decade when they went to sleepovers.

Now, they have their own genre of music and goto lots of concerts since we live in the TriState Area which has lots of venues for music.

I have noticed folks chiming in on your replies and that makes me happy! :broccoli::dancingbacon:

That's a heavy markup, sheesh. People need to stop paying it and they will stop asking for it.

Yeah I hope prices like that disappear over the next year or so because I assume those vehicles will just sit on the lot.

Sure it seems high, but don't overlook the cabin sanitation service and nitrogen valve caps.

People are out there driving them and the GX too no idea what kind of price they are paying. Maybe leases I think the majority of GX sales have been leased. That's a lot a money right?

That’s sooo much money. Especially to lease and just throw it away.

I'd feel dirty as hell printing that window sticker, let alone putting it on the vehicle. Shame on them and shame on anyone who buys the vehicle anywhere near that price.

They aren’t doing that here. Starting the see them in the wild, parked beside one the other day at Lowe’s, it is a nice size, not too big, not too small, just right. Better than the Sequoia.

It is a little on the spendy side, considering what you get, hybrid standard and whatnot, sort of reasonable. My wife really likes it, and do see mainly women driving them, not sure what that says about it.

I'm so with this. How do people justify leasing (renting) a Toyota is beyond my comprehension. I get it with BMW and other crappy cars that drop value faster than whatever analogy you want to put there. But a Tacoma or Honda Civic or 4runner they will hold their value very well for the first few years.

I sold my 2018 Tacoma for more than what I paid for it in 2020. Maybe times have changed.

if you lease a tacoma, you are still eating away at the "principal", just like a loan, part goes to the price of the car and a part goes to the heavens. If you decide you want to sell that taco in 2 years, you can do so! you will owe X amount on the truck and if it hold its value well, you end up getting a few bucks back, that would be impossible in a car that does not hold its value, (other than with a huge down payment) Also, if you buy the truck you [ay 3K in taxes right away, you'll never get that back, when you lease you only pay taxes on the amount of your monthly payment, which is obviously less than the price of the truck. If you know youre going to keep the truck, purchase it, if not, consider the lease. Obviously there are a million different thing that can change this but at least here in CA that's how it works

Don't head over to an exotic car forum then. You might pass out. People are paying $100K ADM's for a $200K car.

Yeah those prices in your link are much more reasonable. Same thing here, we are looking at them for my wife because her 20 year old civic is about done. I personally wouldn’t drive one of the new LC’s I don’t think…they give me soccer mom vibes for some reason. Maybe it’s because they’re smaller and lower to the ground?

I sat in the driver’s seat of one the other day and man that thing is comfortable.

I agree, that price feels borderline criminal to me.

Looking for my wife too, she is in an old 4Runner but it is getting tired. She says it doesn’t matter what she drives just so the ac and heat works, but I see her eyes light up looking at the new 4Rs and Broncos, swear I see more women driving those and Jeeps than I do dudes.

The LC does have that posh soccer mom vibe to it that it won’t leave the suburbs/mall very much, right there with Landy’s. Have to tart it up a bit to loose that.

Yeah I do think these new models definitely are less rugged looking. The salesman at the dealership who wandered out to bother us while we were looking around even told us that the new Land Cruiser is “one of those cars where you can just get in it and get right on the highway and go!”

I was like… well if that’s the case then I’ll take 2 good sir! lol

If they’re going to put $90K sticker prices on these things, they gotta come up with something better than that.
