I completely busted a driver side cv axel and decided to replace both of them. After the install and i drove it it started making a horrible grinding noise at a certain point in the driver sides wheel rotation. Haven’t taken it back apart to see if i could find anything, just looking to see if anyone has any ideas of what it could be.

The noise is not there at low speeds?
Or is it there all the time? But just not as loud?

How many ft lbs did you use on the axle nuts?

I did 173 ft/lbs. I saw forums on here and did some other research

Any chance the backing plate got bent enough to contact the rotor? I’ve seen that happen plenty of times.

Either the backing plate or the dust shields in the CV are bent and contacting the wheel hub

So you "busted" a driver side CV axle. Possibly upon busting it, removing, or installing it you could have damaged the crappy needle bearing.

I would go straight for an ECGS bushing replacement. Look up ecgs bushing or Tacoma needle bearing and you will find all the evidence you need. Cheap job if you can DIY.

Other than that you likely have a bad driver side wheel bearing. Basically the 2 things I would be looking at closely.
