I run about 185 on average, but have seen it as high as 195 when working the engine. I still have an I think stock thermostat in the engine,or at least I put in a "stock replacement" when I did the timing belt, water pump, hoses, etc.

Flushed the brake fluid and tested (blew in) the brake booster check valve. I could blow thru the side that connects to the intake manifold and couldn't blow thru the side that connects to the booster. I'm chasing an issue where the pedal goes part way thru it's range of travel and then it gets hard to press. If I press harder it will "release" and the pedal will move normally. May work normal for a few brakes and then this will reoccur. What's everyone's go to for a remanned brake booster? I'm guessing that's next. Calipers seem to be in good shape. Brake fluid flush did not help. Pads and rotors replaced around 20k miles ago. Wear pattern looks even.

I believe the test for the BB is to put vacuum on it and see if it holds. Looks like this is a quick video that might help.

Just a new battery after 6 years....

Basically over 20 years and about 185k miles, besides replacing radiator, AC compressor/dryer, fogged headlamps, VC gaskets, pos terminal clamp, and LH front window trim, has just needed consumables like batteries, tires, brakes, Tbelt / Wpump / Tstat, and fluids.

Towed it 1000 miles to NM, only took two uhaul trailers, and then drove it up to 10k ft and found a dirt road to get me home.

I don't know much about engines, and I don't need a 5VZ, but just out of curiosity... what do y'all think of this buildup? What even causes that? Was this engine just running the original factory oil?

$100 is a screaming deal for someone if it's usable.

Just resurfaced head and had valve seats cut. Valve clearances are out of spec as expected, one of them I couldnt even get 0.0015 under smoothly, the rest are out of spec by only about 0.001-0.002. Is it safe to measure and replace shims before running it at all or should it be run first to break everything in then adjusted? I cant imagine itll loosen up very much after running.

I also was reading on a landcruiser forum that its possible the new head bolts could bottom out before reaching the proper torque and may need to be cut down to account for the lost material on the head- this seems extreme to me, but i wasnt able to check the depth of the holes before I installed them because it didnt even occur to me, surely they left more than like 10 thou at the bottom of the head bolt holes?? They were tight going in, but I sort of expected that considering they are torque to yield.
