Have you crawled under the truck to look at the shift linkage?

i would have the fluid level inspected. some trucks have had the fluid low from the factory, and automatic's require fluid pressure to maintain any gear.

    while running, at temperature?

because of the amount of fluid that goes into the torque converter, checking the level at other times can result in a bad level reading.

At this point, you're just going to have to trust the process. But be prepared for the "could not replicate" response from the service manager.

Try to get a video of the symptom before you go to your appointment.

Did you wash the truck recently? When the drums get wet and sit they'll stick occasionally until a violent jerk breaks them loose.

The 2021 auto transmission does not have a dip stick for the fluid.

Under the truck on the transmission, there is a drain plug; a fill plug and a check plug.

You have to get the trans up to a certain temperature range then pull the check plug to see that some fluid dribbles out to know it’s full.

Do a search here it’s been written up a few times.

For a 2021 - the temp check mode you don’t have to jump the wire in the OBD2 port like the early 3rd Gens (don’t need to try and make sense of this now, just keep it in your mind for when you read the procedure).

Alternatively I’ve used a heat temp sensor gun on the trans pan in a non Tacoma and it’s works decently.

Given the OP didn’t know the transmission doesn’t have a dip stick, I’d suggest he simply take the truck back to the dealer.

He doesn’t seem like much of a shade tree mechanic.
