Going to visit my parents, it's my Dad's 63rd birthday. Still really haven't come up with a good gift for him though :/ I have the perfect gift idea but it is something that's gonna be big money and time and I need to wait for the right one to show up first.

 

Ah I hate giving gifts, not because I don't want to, but because some people are hard to hint at something they'd want (and your intent to give them something meaningful)

When's his bday?

 

It's tomorrow but we're gonna celebrate on Saturday

 

My dad is a hard person to buy gifts for because he always just buys what he wants. So unless I can come up with something clever I usually just give him a gift card to REI so he can put it toward the next thing he wants to buy from there lol.

 

I've been told by every partner I've had including Rebecca numerous times that this is me 100% and I don't deny it lol. I don't know why, it's just not the way I'm wired.

I also don't like being asked what I want or want to do on my birthday, just let it come and go

edit - Its gotten easier with kids because more practical things become more gift-worthy when you don't have the time to do that kind of shopping yourself anymore

 

Airplane tracker flights are kinda weird

It's like listening to a police scanner, 99% of it is just boring chatter but occasionally something juicy and dramatic pops up I guess.

If I want something, I just get it myself on a regular day

On my bday, I don't really want anything but when I got asked this year, and last, I literally just answer "a yellow redbull" or something

It's better than the other extreme, people that obsess over their own birthdays and plan them out weeks in advance. I had an ex whose sister was like that. Like if you didn't go along with it, and god help you if you didn't acknowledge it constantly and/or do something for her on the day of, you were villainized hardcore.

*doesn't apply to little kids, I just find it really weird when adults act that way.

Yeah I get annoyed by one person in particular in my FB friends (not my actual friend, but anyway)

She'll post "ONE MONTH BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY"

Then, again "2 WEEKS BEFORE MY.."

Then a "GOT MY BIRTHDAY CROWN"

Like holy shit you've announced your bday 20 times a good 2-3 months before your birthday, and you're turning 60 not 16 stfu

 

I'm still rocking unemployed life. If you ignore no money coming in it's pretty sweet.
