(this topic has been discussed on here before but good to bring it back up)

So I have had a few knee injuries from snow skiing / stand up jetskiing. Partial mcl tears both knees and a little bit of a messed up meniscus in one.

After injuring both knees like this I got some K4 pod knee braces after doing research, the fact they were convertible (you can remove the knee fall protection for use in like snow skiing/water skiing etc) was why I got them over mobius / leatt's moto specific ones, but realistically they are all similar. They make it so the knee can only swing in its intended direction and not be pushed in or out and limit for hyperextension.

Wearing my braces snow skiing one day properly fitted and properly tight and adjusted, I was cruising along on a connector trail and caught an edge (I keep my bindings VERY loose because of previous injuries - DIN of ~5 - I can be standing still and twist my foot out of my ski). The way that the forces from that edge catch were transferred to my leg in the unnatural way because of the braces actually produced THE WORST INJURY i have ever had. Almost full tear of MCL, bruised my femur at the joint surface, FRACTURED the joint surface of my tibia and lots of other soft tissue damage. I havent worn the braces since.

This guy had almost the same injury as me with a small normal impact.

Wife passed her retest for the permit this morning!! Was told previously that it'd be 1 hour warmup, then the test. They did the "warmup" going through all the exercises and the dude said "congrats, you all passed." Can't have test anxiety when you don't know you're being tested!!

Thanks for your opinion. I have read that some as well.

I'll just give leatt guards a go, they are much cheaper too.

I've done both hexagons and just bought a half pound of cutoffs and trimmed to where I wanted to put things, loved both. Its amazing how well retroreflective tape works.

Hell yeah, congrats to her! And that's the best kind of instructor.

Whats the quote.. something like "tell me how you're going to crash and I'll tell you what gear to wear"

Thanks. Have the OEM round reflectors still, but did want to replace with tape to have a better sleek look. Testers here are strict on any modifications like that so needed to wait. See the link in another post, will be looking at those.

Thats a pretty cool instructor, was he aware of the test anxiety ? Either way hell yeah! Enjoy the ride.

I have had some of their dual axis knee / shin guards for a long time and they are great.

Dont get me wrong the braces do serve their purpose and could help people out, but from my personal experience I wont wear them.

Wheel tape is great for enhancing visibility while blending in nicely on the bike.

Pic taken with flash so the tape would show up. Not sure what color your wheels are but for my 2013 FJR I bought black reflective rim tape. You likely won't even realize it's there on black wheels but will show up as almost white when light hits it. I only use Taylor wheel tape, too many guys I know had the knock off stuff fail to stick or the reflection was less than optimal.

We're sounding like opposites. My SM has seen more dirt than street, even though that was not the intention when purchasing.

I will most likely go the inexpensive route and buy more street style tires for my 21/18 wheels. Only other good option is to find klx300sm take off wheels. That way everything fits. Or another option is buy a Klx300sm sell the DS. There is a 2023 brand new klx300sm for $6850 OTD TTL total near me.

    The crash kind. Ha.

I'm a minimalist in regards to gear. Havent been wearing elbow pads recently.
Would you buy the dual axis pro or one of the 3df models if you were purchasing now?

Dirtbike for me requires good gear, minimum good set of boots (I rock gaerne fastback enduros), knee n shin guards, helmet gloves and full armor upper body protection that goes all the way to protect tailbone.

Helmet n gloves are obvious necessary pieces.

But the boots, knee/shin, and upper full armor have 1000% SAVED ME from big injuries.

To answer your question, I'd go with one of the dual axis ones for sure, they offer the most protection, and fit me well. The pro version, not sure on the vented I feel like that might "grip" if you fell vs sliding

Woo!! New helmet finally. Been wearing the same relatively cheap BILT adv/offroad helmet for about 4 years now and it was fine to start but riding on the street the past year or 2 it's crazy loud and not aerodynamic in the slightest - not to mention it just doesn't fit well anymore and was moving very independently of my noggin.
Enter the RF-SR!! Which Cycle Gear had slightly discounted and came with a free Cardo so seemed good enough to go for. HOLY SMOKES!! It's so quiet, light, and easy to manage for street riding. Neck doesn't have to fight it like my old helmet and it just glides through the air.
    IMG_8619.jpg

The ZRX is also awkwardly fit into the garage for now because my dry-rotted cover finally ripped completely open.

If I get too heat exhausted then I crash more. Used to wear more gear but I noticed it happening eventually.

    My typical gear is:
    SG12s
    klim f5
    troy lee speed sleeves
    gloves

    optional:
    A* a10 chest protector
    Leatt 3df 6.0 elbow guards
    Bikes belong in the garage

Finally got my map sensor for my stupid bike. I was riding in limp mode for the last week to avoid losing seat time.

It's crazy how long it takes to get parts for motorcycles compared to cars, I'm so used to instant delivery.

Learned not to put iridium plugs in my bike and to be careful with filter oil.
