"Freeze" is free ... just prevents new changes. "Lock" is the cost-option because of "monitoring".

My credit has been frozen for years. I have recently been thinking about freezing my kids (ages 7 and 9) too…

System will advise if info was breached and only displays the last 2 digits of your SSN.

Or.... you can find out when you start getting bills for a car you never bought.... or a house... or what not.

DO NOT lose the unlock information. Maybe keep an electronic copy in a secure place ... encrypt the "jpg" or text file? Without it you will have to jump through excessive number of hoops.

I discovered my 2 kids info ( along with mine and the wife ) was part of the breach.

Personally I think the gubberment should do away with SSN's, or re-issue new numbers to everyone ever 5 years.

I call my credit card companies every year and request a new one with new numbers even though I hardly use them.
I got burned once for $500 a long time ago, never again.

it amazes me a little cardboard id card issued by the govt eons ago, with your SSN on it, is still accepted as id at some places.
iirc pilots licenses used to use SSN. they got away from that about 20 yrs ago.

Clearly you trust big media outlets. End of night story, "before we say goodbye tonight, BTW, 3/4 of the US just had their information compromised, good night and thanks for watching". They don't care about the little people.

I dont trust media exactly for this. You can find politics and bs everywhere but I dont see CNN talking about this. They are so useless.

Speaking of BREAKING NEWS ... GMA told me that food and other packages are slightly smaller but the price stays the same. NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED when the new box of Cheerios the same size has so much additional "buffering insulating" air space around the bag.

Sorry ... not so much BREAKING NEWS as I thought ... :anonymous:

Don't bother with the upgrade, just fleezing their pockets for no benefit.

It’s free to freeze it. It should be an option right up front when you log into your account, a toggle with a single button click.

It is pretty much everyone in the US who has been compromised. My long dead dad and my not so long dead mom are in this. My non US citizen wife is in this as well. I think I will freeze all of my grade school age kids credit as well.

I assume all of my above family members will be voting with mail in ballots this election.

I was part of Equifax and AT&T breach, I'm pretty sure majority of the country's population were exposed.

Speaking of media coverage of this breach, multiple articles are quoting various private security professionals as stating that:
    1) the actual number of people affected is unknown and
    2) much of the data exposed is already publicly available and also a fair amount is inaccurate.

So this kind of appears to be…not so big of a deal. I’d be way more worried about a breach from a credit card company, health care company, etc that has non-publicly available data.
