I have heated our home here in VT exclusively with wood for going on 35 years.
Fischer stoves are just that durable!
A couple years ago, the wife got all esthetic and we put a soapstone stove in the upstairs living space.

It only takes 16 inch wood!

Last year , we realized that with the kids out, we didn't need to "heat" the downstairs, just break the chill. So I piped in a pellet stove right next to the Fischer log wood stove (that takes 28 inch wood and burns ROCKS if you get a good fire going)
But the pellet stove seems to answer our needs, at a $6 bag a day ($219 a ton delivered)

There are 8 or nine cords of stove wood stacked in the yard, The 4 cord wood shed out back is full.

I'm going to watch this year's burn rate carefully. Cutting off the pile is getting harder every year. I might end up buying cut and split. Or just order in another log load when the space clears out. The next door neighbor's son has a processor and runs a truck load out just about every evening after his day job. Must be making bank!

Sorry, I can't say a thing about the outdoor boilers. A nearby neighbor has one and it smokes up everything on a cold winter morning.

 

What was your intent by reversing the direction of pull? (same force as a direct pull)

Root arrangement? or other ground considerations?

 

Today I refreshed the WICO XH-23 magneto on my old tractor.
New coil, points condenser etc. But I'm not happy with the points alignment. The fixed point needs tweaking, as the movable side hits in a pronounced wedge.

It seems that the KD-111 tool is no longer available.

Anyone with a good idea how to tweak the fixed point without damage. Vise grips and a 2# hammer does not seem like a good tool choice ;-)

wanted, begged, and tried to buy a baby bear fisher and the woman cant handle. effen killed my (heat) wave.it smells like smoke.... so does my electric heat bill :/ ive got slabs of soap stone rems. too.

 

Root arrangement was the biggest reason. Tried from another direction at first and it didn’t budge, I was able to get a little bit of movement in this direction so I went with it. Tempted to just hookup a tow strap to my 1-ton truck next time but I really don’t want that shock load on the frame and also the possibility of a shackle coming through my window if I use a kinetic snatch strap.

 

Do you have an excavator there>?

If so here's a trick for you..... Cable to the tree thru the pulley & back to your bucket.
Put blade against stump.

Push with tracks/blade while curling the bucket in. You will be getting double the force out of your machine plus the extra from the pulley in the cable.

I'm lazy so I usually just sit in the seat & dig around it until the roots are all cut then flip it out.

 

If you have a large spare tire laying around you can try putting it under the winch line next to the stump to give vertical lifting motion on the stump.

I know my winch would let me stand much further back than he is, and I would be using all the cord I had to be out of the way too.

 

I might rent an excavator for a weekend. The dingo works but it takes so long. Stump #2 done and making some progress on the RV spot.

 

A power washer and a decent trash pump with a filter capable of handling dirt does wonders.

And always cut the stump high if you want to remove it, the higher the better.

 

What tree species would that be with no tap root and surface roots that just break off?

Still pretty impressive.

The old timers made A frames out of logs to the same purpose, only with ox and horses for the tug.

 

Oh pressure washer is a good idea minus the red clay is nasty when wet. Original plan was to just get the trees cut down. Then it was to cut them as low to the ground as possible to use a stump grinder on them. And then this mini dingo fell it my lap so making do with what I have.

 

Gotta work with what ya have lots of times.

Patience is still the best tool.

I tried to tell my buddy it was more than likely the starter relay, he doesn't like to listen.

It quit starting again Labor Day weekend. He ask me to stop by the Kioti dealer and get a new ignition switch he ordered. I said I don't mind at all since it's on the way home but I think from what I've read on the net it's the starter relay (behind fuel tank on what would be the firewall on a vehicle). Picked up the switch, $98 and change. When he got the switch I said I still think it's the starter relay, not the solenoid but the relay. He said I'll try this switch first.

Wouldn't start.


He ordered a relay and had it sent to his house.

He just messaged me, said it starts fine now with the new relay. I'm glad it was that simple.

 

Reminds me of South Main Auto on YouTube when he fixes the "auction specials" for the other shops. Parts cannon it hoping to fix it rather than figure out the actual problem. Then he comes in and looks at it and it ends up being a broken wire or something silly lol (also in New York with the salt)

 

I am not proud of it but I have been “that guy” before.
