    Morning all:

Gorgeous country there Phillip! Darn, no brookies, but those cutthroats look nice, we don't have them around here.

Starting to get things in order for archery season, just got done spraying all my hunting camo with permethrin, so far it has done its job keeping ticks off of me during the archery season.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/meanderers. I'll be doing a bit of that over the next month or so, heading to upstate New York and later to Alabama. I love road trips!

Car dealers, not so much. I'm just finishing up fixing all of the screw-ups the dealer did to our Mercedes station wagon while performing some MB-paid repairs:
    • rear subframe replacement due to rust-through: ours had it, they replaced it -- and incorrectly reinstalled the air springs, causing one of them to blow out within a week. Plus the lug bolts must have been tightened using Godzilla's own air wrench, because they required a breaker bar + 4-foot pipe to remove! I estimate that they were 'torqued' to over 300 ft/lbs.
    • front steering rack bolt replacement: there was so much cosmolene-type gunk slathered on that it was dripping on the ground under the car, making me think the rack was leaking.
    • fading interior wood trim replacement: the same Godzilla that installed the wheels must have been let loose on that job too because the trim was hanging loose in places due to the retaining clips having been mangled into pretzels and therefore not doing that 'retaining' thing. And the glovebox wouldn't stay shut after I opened it to find the wheel lug torque spec.
It's a real shame when even an expensive brand like Mercedes can't get decent mechanics in their shop. (Not that ours was an expensive car! It was when it was new, but that was a long time ago, and Mercedes value drops like a stone, so we got a pretty good deal.) Thank goodness there's a decent indy near us who's been in the business for 3 generations.

Morning all. Here’s a pic I took last night of the sunset from our stateroom balcony. Life is good on an Alaska cruise.

I have a hierarchy of trout based on how good they are to eat and how difficult to catch.

    1. Golden (never caught one, my bucket list fish)
    2. Brown
    3. Cutthroat
    4. Brook
    5. True Native Rainbow (Do they still exist?)
    .
    .
    .
    6. Crossbred planters...

So I'd gladly take the cutthroat and smile...

In my backpacking days I caught Goldens at high elevation lakes but never ate any. Released them all. They are generally small and somewhat rare. They are beautiful, just couldn’t get myself to kill any and eat them. I was just elated every time I caught one.

We used to hike on a pretty treacherous trail on Mt. Palomar where there were California Golden Trout deep into a ravine below several waterfalls.
Trail is closed now because too many rookies would hike down to go skinny dipping and couldn't make it back up.
Last time I went on the trail I took my girlfriend, now my wife. My German Shepherd "Aragon" pulled her up the trail. Damn good dog!
I remember offering to examine her from head to toe for ticks.
Wife is still pretty good too!

    Beautiful view.

    Dinner looks delicious.

@Ridgewalker1 thank you for sharing the pictures. Such beautiful country.

Good morning. Taking my cousin to a doctor's appointment today. Then out for a dinner with music. Should be a quiet day. Finally, fixed mt sons string trimmer. It was the sparkplug coil. Replaced the coil and it started right up. Still need to clean the old carb and sparkplug to keep for spares.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Today will likely be nap day at some point. At 0120, I was awoken by a siren flashing past my house. It was followed about 25 seconds later by another. And another. And another. And another. My guess is 4 fire departments in total and water tankers from another 4. Tankers going past the house about every 6 minutes until somewhere around 0430-0500.

See, down the street from me, at the north edge of town, there is an alfalfa mill. They grind alfalfa down and press it into pellets for feed. It appears they had a fire...again. They store many tons of alfalfa on site.

Last time (almost 13 years ago), it took 4 days to put it out. This time, it seems to be just hours...they seem to be mopping up now, hasn't been a tanker past the house in an hour and a half or so. It will be interesting to hear what it was this time. Last time, it was some hay that was baled too green/wet that eventually spontaneously combusted. By the time it was found, it was so hot, they had their hands full trying to get to it. They wound up tearing the building down while the FD sprayed water on it.
