Midland MXT575 Glovebox Install?

Has anyone installed a Midland MXT 575 inside their glovebox? What are the best alternative mounting locations? I just picked up a MXT575 and was originally planning on installing it inside of the glovebox of my 2020 TRD Off Road. It doesn’t seem like this will work in the glovebox unlike the slightly smaller

MXT275 model. Where has everyone mounted there’s? I’d prefer a stealth look and have the unit hidden, perhaps under the seat or behind the console. I’d rather not mount in inside the center console arm rest because it will interfere with my console tray. If all else fails, I’ll mount it to the side of the console on the passenger side. Thanks in advance!

 

I typically just toss small radios under the seat.

 

Do you use any type of special mounting bracket or just the one that it comes with?

 

Literally throw them under my seat. Haha. I'd just be conscious of if there's a fan / radiating fins , that they're placed topside so they can do their job..

 

I mounted mine under the seat. I ordered a piece of aluminum from Amazon and used velcro on the backside to stick it to the carpet. I saw this done somewhere on this forum and it works well. Use the mount to mount the radio to the aluminum.

 

I put mine behind the passenger kick panel, (I have a second gen).

 

This is a great idea! Do you happen to have a direct link to the same or similar piece of aluminum that you used? I guess I just need to make sure the mounting holes line up. Or did you drill the holes yourself?

You can probably use the 1/8. It would be easier to cut and probably be a few bucks less.

 

I just tucked mine behind the center console area and added a jumper for the mic plug that I mounted to the edge of the console. So I can plug in it as needed.

 

@shaggy135 Nice spot for the jack. I mounted mine on the knee plate, but there's not much room.

 

I popped out the useless Qi charger button and put my mic jack there.

 

That's even better!

 

Side of the center console is nice too for running the mic cable to a holder that you can clip onto an HVAC vent or ram mount.

 

I think I have the same or similar radio I bought over a year ago and slacking on that project too.

My plan was to install it under the center console and tap off the power port but maybe a bad idea with the inverter there??
In my old pathy I had it ziptied under the seat.


The antenna seems like a bigger issue, I was going to use a tab in the cargo rail but I was told by firestik that it needs a solid ground, more like a braided cable than a wire.
What'd you guys do?

Also planing on high clearance rear bumper soon so that's where it'll end up......when I don't know!

 

Does that port come with a plug on the other end of it?

 

If you wanted to go nuts you can run a bolt through the side of the plastic bed, then connect braid from the antenna mount to the bolt on one side, then the bolt on the inside of the plastic bed somewhere to the rolled fender.

If you're running CB as well I'd suggest getting some pipe clamps and running some strap to the body and frame as well. Takes lots of the noise out. You'll most likely still hear some of the fuel pump.

 

is that what you did on your cb antenna?


I'll have a steel HC rear soon so it'll be solid and not need anything.

 

If you look to the right of your gas pedal, there is a small area under the hvac box that fits this radio perfectly. Thats where mine was for many years.
