Hey there, would appreciate some help. I apologize for the long text. I have a couple sounds that began the next day following a ceramic coat. Both noises appear once it’s been parked for an extended period of time (usually beginning of the day or after work).

    1. when I first move (either in reverse or forward) once the tires start moving I get a loud “clack”. It sounds more passenger front but honestly I can’t pin point front versus rear.

    2. when first getting into the truck I’ll get a clunk from the rear. Almost like when something flexes the leaf springs and will happen on either side. Once they clunk and if you try replicating it won’t repeat until it’s been sitting a while.

My only guess is either the ceramic coat (since a tire ceramic was done as well) got into some of the brakes and leaf springs so it is sticking or when he washed my truck and washed it very well and removed some of the lubricant on there. (When I say my guess, this is no way my expertise, just logically what would make sense there was no noise prior).

The leaf spring noise bothers me less because I had a same noise after first installing them and the shop let me know it was sometimes the paint coating on the springs that will stick and will wear off and sure enough after about 6 weeks later the noise stopped until after this coating. The “clack when first moving noise” is more annoying and new to me. Any of you have a similar experience following a ceramic coat?

I would bet that some ceramic made it's way onto your rotor and that explains the "clack." Probably the pad sticking to the rotor.

Has it been wet? I seriously doubt your ceramic coating ha anything to do with the noise. Since you have drums in the rear, moisture [do you put your parking brake on?] from rain or simply the dew point could be causing rust inside the drums and sticking the shoes. A slight movement breaking them loose could be what you hear.

PS, all three of my vehicles are ceramic coated, no noise.

Is that something that you think would eventually wear off on its own, or should I be removing the wheel and cleaning the rotor?

I do use my e-brake yes. And we’ve had some rain but also there was noise until after the coating. That being said the truck was washed before the coating by the guy.

I would say it would wear off after a short period of time. Thinking about the last time I did a ceramic coat myself, I didn't spray it on. It's wiped on using an applicator.

I would believe some minor rust in the rear ebrakes causing this noise when it breaks free (very common), but I seriously doubt the ceramic coating itself has anything to do with what you heard.

Try not using your parking brake for a bit and see if the noise stops. It also could be that you are unloading something in the drivetrain or suspension when you put it in gear after having the parking brake on.

Im curious if the guy did a spray on for the tire ceramic portion only, so perhaps that’s why? Either way I’ll try some of the e-brake testing like others have said and in the mean time more time will pass to see if that’ll help like you said.

If some of it were just ceramic that gone into the places, would I have to remove the wheels and clean the rotor and then also reapply some brake grease? (I was going to start small and put some grease on the brake pins).

I’ll try this out, it feels like it’s from the front mostly but I feel one of the times when leaving work it was from the back. I’ll try and get a video. I appreciate the replies.

"Cleaning off" ceramic coating is not a simple task.

I think if anything, some ceramic got on the rotor. It will wear off after driving.
