This is for the same reason there aren't throttle cables any more. And the reason our v6's have different spark plugs on each side. It's about speed of assembly on the assembly line. Tesla for example pushes a new car off the line every 45 seconds.

And loss of throttle cable has to do with "congressional safety measures"

 

A lot of Toyotas come from the factory with different brand plugs on the passenger and driver side.

Fly by wire was happening before said safety measures. It's faster to plug in a module into the wiring harness that is already there, than to put in a cable, hook it up to the pedal, hook it up to the firewall, hook it up to the engine, and then adjust the slack.

Toyota introduced throttle by wire in late 1st gens circa 2003 to be able to program in throttle lag and save fuel. This was literally written in the FSM system description at the time. The throttle cable was made redundant because there wasn't a mechanical connection to the butterfly valve anyway.

It seems the business arrangement with NGK didn't extend to iridium plugs. 3rd gen 2GR was Denso-only, as was the improved 1GR in 5th gen 4Runners (all 2 million of them).
