rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
Fluid Film spot rust treatment and a wheel cleaning.

Once all the accumulated raod dirt was wire brushed out, I could read on the wheel "For temporary use only"

Why is that? Looks like a perfectly good steel wheel to me.

Maybe because some of the vehicles they use those wheels on don’t come with full size spares? Could be to avoid liability if someone is running a donut on one of those wheels and has a blowout.

It's because of the lug nuts, the factory nuts are designed for alloys and have a chamfer but its not suited for long term use on steel rims.

That said lots of my customers run steel rims for winters and run the alloy lugs no issues (except swelling)

Top picture is steelie ... cone is more defined than the "flat ledge" for the mags on the lower lugs.

SUPER HELPFUL @RIX TUX has the Toyota part numbers and is willing to lord the knowledge over me. :boink:

I believe Toyota is referring to the tire, not the rim. But don't quote me, you should read your manual.

My spare is the same Goodyear as the original 4 main tires. The rim for my spare is a steelie instead of a mag.

The rims are different between the trim/tire changes.
16” has the common round hole steelie that is often run as secondary rims.
17” has an odd triangle like center which most find “weird”
18” have another unusual rim, but I don’t remember the pattern.
I think there is even an SR 15”.

I imagine it's a combination of the lugs and wheel offset?

It’s possible, but I highly suspect they’re identical for all the possibilities. They just vary the tire/tread ratio to achieve the same diameter… as the body/suspension is the same for all with only minor tweaks (shocks, torsion(sway), etc. you can certainly interchange any of the stock offerings.

No TPMS sensor in the spare, so it doesn't meet federal regulation for new production vehicles if you run the spare "permanently".
