I got to pet a Giraffe at the New Zoo near Green Bay.
I got to pet an alligator and a flamingo in Florida.

I'd think twice about petting an alligator!

I could easily pet a couple Sandhill cranes at work and the occasional Great Blue Heron on my dock, so there is that!

Unfortunately I checked the calendar and I won't make it for the October shenanigans. I'll be heading out through South Dakota, down through Colorado, and into New Mexico to visit with family and see the sights along the way. I wanted to join in but just driving up to Bayfield adds hundreds of miles and costs me precious time on the road. Sorry, just doesn't fit with my other travel this time. Next year. Take lots of pics, I won't get to see Wisconsin colors this year!

I might share photos from the road in a separate PM thread just to keep from spamming. Let me know if interested and I'll work with the Dangerfield to set it up.

Be carerful looking at all those maps. They lie. Plus Bayfield has a huge range of colors depending where you are at. Some southern parts and/or if the scenic drive goes through Ashland or Iron counties can be as early as 3rd/4th week of September. Some colder northern parts more affected by Superior can be very late or nearly not at all. I've seen cold fronts hit and the change is like two days from full leaf cover to bare branches. Very hit or miss. First week of October though for anywhere near US-2 is a good safe bet and despite my best efforts to time it otherwise I don't know if you can.

We'll definitely miss you in Bayfield! But, it sounds like you're going to have a great trip! Don't even hesitate to spam the main threads with pictures and reports. I always enjoy reading about your trips, and I'm sure others do as well!

Same, will miss seeing everyone this time and I love fall in the north woods which kills me that I'm missing this year. 10-4 on the photo spam, I'll do my best lol. Just hope I can catch the aspens changing in the Black Hills and down into CO at lower elevations. If not I'm sure I'll have pics in the desert. There is an offroad event calle the Chile Challenge in New Mexico that I might partake in for a day or so but doing the less difficult more scenic ride trails (i.e. "gotta drive it home dummy" mode) so maybe I'll have some of that too.

While usually I am all in for the Bayfield trip I had to mark myself as a maybe for this year. I will most likely go but I am leaving for Germany the following weekend and need to be sure everything is in place at work and home before that.

Might miss Octoberfest but the Hafbrau Haus in Munich is still a nice stop.
The Schlenkerla brewery is in Bamberg. Get your hands on a smoked beer. Delicious.

Spent a couple of hours after school today exploring some routes in the Barrens today for the Color Run. Have some fun planned. I now know this tight, just a little scratchy trail... Found a roller coaster, but the FS dug a barricade about a 1/4 mile in. Couldn't turn around as it was an old raised rail bed so... over I went. Had to go about 1/2 mile more before I could turn around. What is wrong with those guys??? Couldn't back out because it was so tight with trees etc. Just stupid. Put it at the road! Was fun though...
