Checking to see if anyone has experienced the same issue. I have a 24 OR @3200 miles. We t to start it and threw check engine, reduced power, and disabled all the sensors. Most guys say it drives fine and been a shutter issue. Mine barely goes 5pmh and shifted so hard i turned it off. It also turns over for 3-5 seconds before firing up.

Could be anything, dont hook up a scan tool to it because it can clear the data and prevent the dealer from seeing what the real problem is.

The shutter issue wouldnt cause drivability issues.

I hope not. The situation it began with is wild. I work 24 hour shift (fire dept). Parked for the day went to start the truck from my app. Said it started. Got out to it and realized it did not start. Weird but not a big deal right. Then proceeded to start it. It cranked over for a good couple seconds ran rough and then threw the beautiful dash display at me. Cycled again and same story. Cycled the gears to see if i could make the 5 miles to a toyota dealer and it shifted so hard and seemed like the motor was struggling. I called off the attempt parked it and contacted Toyota care to get it towed to my dealer.

never once had a hard shift, or anything odd before just simply starting it up in the morning and bam. Ive been going through every video of the trans issues and seeing if i can relate or the shutter issue. It just doesnt line up.

Wonder if it’s a bad battery. I know that sounds weird but it would do this kind of stuff with rams & Chevys when the battery is going out. I hope that’s all it is and not a bigger issue for you.

Fingers crossed it’s easily fixed. I am part of the broken transmission group. I attempted to accelerate after pulling out in traffic. Holy F,,,,vehicles coming and I made it to the side of the highway. 1569 miles,,,, and I contacted toyota care for a tow they didn’t come. Frustrating! Dealership had me contact their tow company. Now I sit with a loaner car. I LOVE the truck. Allegedly, the transmission is in. We shall see. We are fighting for the platinum warranty.

fingers crossed all is well. Sorry ur going through this. Also, thank you for your service.

Are there specific VINs that are experiencing transmission issues more than others? This is the first time I have hard of this if true. Thanks!

Alright. Diagnosis is in. Toyota was pretty quick to service and found it to be a crank case sensor. Apparently it was crushed/damaged at factory. Odd it took this long to show its face but its fixable with parts in stock so should be back on the rode today.

There is speculation around 3TM and 3TY vins (first three) but Im not sure there is any weight to that rumor.

Glade youre okay! Thats awful. Im thankful it was parked and easily manageable to get it take. Care of. Appears it was a crank case sensor that was bad/damaged from factory.

If your transmission craps out, this is a NHTSA issue. Report it.

Report a Vehicle Safety Problem, Equipment Issue | NHTSA

Anything that causes a loss of power, and a trasmission prolapsing itself qualifies, should be reported. The more reports, which are public, the more attention the issue gets which helps motivate a widespread fix e.g. voluntary recall for affected VINs. It's far easier to bury it as "only 18 complaints out of 100,000" when these are handled silently behind the scenes.

This is interesting! I am this person, behind the scenes, some what silent. I don’t want to bad mouth toyota or the dealership. They have both been accommodating.
I understand it’s not fair for others, but both parties have fixed the problem. Until, I don’t get my free warranty. Ha.
