ISU - Have fun cleaning your MAF... and the rest of your intake system. Those FRAM's are wayyyyy over oiled (and over priced, and poor at filteration...).

<-admitting to buying the TG filter, and quickly learned my lesson.
I bought my truck in Massachusetts and drove it back to Minnesota (~1700 Miles). A few hundred miles in while fueling up, i checked the air filter that came with the truck... basically black. Only nearby place (within 6 blocks of the highway) with hopes of having an air filter in the next 50 miles open late was a Wal-Mart. Bought the TG "Because it was oiled" (And i was stupid, and it was on sale for cheaper then the normal FRAM)

Drove the truck the rest of the way home, started noticing oddities and had the CEL pop on etc.

Got it home and ripped apart the intake and throttle body, found a nice coating of FRAM's 'oil' all up the intake arm and into the throttle body. It was coating everything my MAF was even 'wet' with the oil.

Needless to say, after spending an hour de-crapping my system, I threw that filter as far away as i could and put in a 'dry' Napa Gold for now, may switch to OEM later, but the NG is head and shoulders about the FRAM.

    Truck is running smoothly.

You must have had a bad one or something, I have never had any issues with too much oil on the filters. I have always oiled all of my filters. Even if it's oem.

Oh, and I forgot. The tough guard is only oiled on one side. Oil have never gotten to the back of the filter by the time I replace them. ≈25,000 miles.

As long as you use a quality filter, quality oil, and change it at regular intervals, it probably doesn't matter which of those filters in the poll that you use. I did pick the K&N, though. That one inch nut on the end is brilliant and the filtration is down to 10 microns. JMO.

Because the factory toyota ones work awesome, last at least as long as anything else, and are extremely cheap to replace just the rubber insert. It's very easy to do after you've done it once before.

Assuming you properly maintain your vehicle the #1 thing that's gonna kill your engine over time is dirt. Factory air and oil filters are simply the highest quality and protect your engine the best. And they aren't even expensive when you compare them to aftermaket parts of similar quality if they even exist.

*not that i'd go back to a FRAM* but you have me curious.

Oiled on one side? My TG was in plastic wrap and the whole unit was coated in a light oil... Droplets of oil were abundant inside the wrapping...

Next time you drop in a new Oiled TG. Pull your intake and look for the oil after ~1000 miles... I could see if i had left it in and not checked it for another few thousand or so + miles (or until service interval) maybe it would have all dried up/sucked in. But i had the odd performance issues arise and removing FRAM's oil coating from my intake+TB+MAF and replacing with a dry filter resolved my issues.

Well I just put one in about 2,500 miles ago and I will safely say that my intake is dry and clean. There's no oil residue around where the filter has been sitting or anything like that. You definitely got the rookie's practice filter, because all that I have used never had more than a smear of oil on the packaging. Drops would not be normal in my book.

no... there's almost zero facts behind most of the opinions here. people say their favorite brand 'works great!'

    what does that mean???

means the filter didn't leak and cause their engine to sieze.

I use OEM filters for both air and intake. One, because they are OEM, 2nd, because for some reason the dealership next to my home sells OEM oil filters for ridiculously cheap ($3.29 each!!)

so your saying the valvoline built up deposits in your engine, then broke them down again, suspended them in the oil, and then carried them to the filter to be filtered out.

Yeah you have no clue what your talking about.

Exactly. His post was hilarious and a great example of someone buying into the marketing hype.
