Pure BS! In over 50 years of working on cars (my own) I have never, ever had a loose oil cap. If anything, they tend to tighten as you drive - some of them seem to take some extra oomph to break them loose.

A few months ago my son had a missing cap after a dealership oil change on his 3G Tacoma. The dealership readily admitted their mistake instead of lying about it. These things do happen, though, but it seems that a quick second pair of eyes for QA would be simple to put into place.

I'm pushing 70 and have never seen an oil cap just 'loosen up' and 'fly off'.
Write that up to total unadulterated bullsh*t.

Finally, this isn't the first post regarding Dealership Oil Changes.

Never, EVER let the dealer do touch your vehicle and if you just have to do it, check everything they did.

At the very least check oil level on dipstick and look around engine bay to ensure all looks normal like oil fill cap on.
Same as any tire work, at the very least check tire pressures and have a look for basics. I've had different size tires installed in the past.
Only makes common sense but only if you have some and actually give a crap.
Don't bitch if you don't check your stuff.

I do my own maintenance. In all my years of driving, I have never had an oil cap go missing.

This same exact thing happened to me and the cap was gone. It was at least missing 2-3k miles as I do check every now and then. Good news is I found it on the day of changing my oil anyways.

Oil and filter looked fine. Nothing to worry about as long as no water got in. AutoZone has new caps for $8.

Seems they go missing somehow. I am now on that list.

Sadly, my experience is that you have to go over everything yourself with a fine tooth comb if you have a Toyota dealer tech service your vehicle....
