Forgot you are supercharged. That clunk/jolt could very well be the slip yoke. I had a similar issue on the white double cab 1st gen I had last year. I believe it was a dry/worn slip yoke. Replacement of the whole unit sounds like a better option.

Yeah mine definitely ran dry a few times. There's supposed to be a cap on the back I think? Mine disappeared at some point and so even though I would pack it with grease, there was nothing to hold it in. Maybe I'm just misremembering it but I could've been better on greasing that thing.

There was a cap but if you overfill the joint the first bump blows the cap out like a stomp rocket

Don't recall there ever being any sort of grease retaining cap. My ford was rubber booted like a cv joint but not Toyota. Unusual for sure.

You sure? Never seen a cap on a slip yoke on a toyota...maybe they have all been blown out...unlikely though.

The grease zerk for the slip joint most likely doesn't do shit for you guys anyways if your slip joint is extended more than stock.

All you end up doing is filling the tube with grease, which never makes it to the splines. I dug half a tube of grease out of there once when I figured this out.

I take it apart and use the PTFE grease to do it properly.

I also run a 1" driveshaft spacer to get more spline engagement.

I think you're right on the money. I remember one time clearing out a bunch of good and then lubing the splines with some blue grease. Didn't occur to me then that your right that it isn't doing shit

Well both locations you've mentioned are a long ass ways away. So I'll probably shoot for Sunday arrival as last time I went there it was border line dangerous with how tired I was.

I'm open to something closer to you, but there's going to be a lot of snow that time of year...

Y'all a bunch a wusses. I for one in veerrrrryyy much looking forward to 40-50⁰ days.

Death valley is closer for me by about 2 hours. But Mojave is on my list too.

I'm always game for AZ or UT too. More south end of grand canyon has to have stuff too.

I am absolutley spoiled now. 80s and sunshine every day, lows in the 50s....no smoke... i dont need it to be cold yet.

Youre screwed either way with the drive. If i had more time i would put together a NM trip but i just dont know enough about the terrain, nor the weather in winter with the elevations.

Yeah we will do NM for sure once you've had some time. I've always been curious about it. My family on my dad's side is from there. I've been once before when I was a kid.

God it's been so smokey the last few days. Mostly from Idaho. But had a few local fires kick up. Usually can have the windows open to enjoy the 60 or colder degree nights.

But sick of the high 80s and 90s days. Ready for cold.

    And yeah true.

Yeah it'll take me time to figure this land out. Excited to not only find places but show y'all around once I do.

Idaho has blown up. I saw on the fire maps that some of my go-to amazing spots have been burned in the last week, it's heart breaking but also kinda tells me that it was perfect timing to leave.

I love the weather here already. Sunshine 310 days a year....

I’ll have to investigate with my setup. These 63s may have me about 3/4” slipped out from factory engagement. Never even thought about a drive shaft spacer. Thanks for the tip.
