Hey guys, wanted to let everyone know this information.....

I just picked up a used O/H console with the temp and compass option and installed it in my 2011 DC SR5 that came with the O/H console with the garage door opener space and the sun glass storage space.

It is total plug and play! All the wiring is already in place and I just plugged in the connectors that were in the overhead and it's done!

VERY EASY, takes less than 5 mins and all you need to do is remove one screw.

I have the garage door opener / sunglass holder console too. How do you know if the compass option is compatable ?? Or are they all pre-wired...

A little of this and a little of that.
Good info bizjettech. I basically did the same with a 2005 4Runner a few years ago. All the wiring was there, just plug it in and snap in place. Instant upgrades.

The 2009+ system is different from the 2008 and prior. The ambient temp sensor is used by the HVAC control circuitry in the 2009+, so all trucks have the sensor. The way the sensor communicates with the overhead console was changed in 2009, so pre-2009 consoles will not work in 2009+ trucks and vice versa.
