Any advice for what to notch the bambeds with?

I recently installed RCI bed stiffeners and now need to mod my bambeds.
I’m not a great wood worker by any means, but would like to end up with a clean edge since a mattress will be resting on it regularly

The cheapest way to do it would be to buy something like this
    https://amzn.to/3Vo6N9X
And then just use some 100ish grit sandpaper to round over the edges.

As a younger punk, I did my share of jigsaw w particle board and MDF in pursuit of car audio silliness. Best to get the edge just so on scrap and use as a template w pencil for the final cut

another viable option might be a good clamp (or even a bad one with scrap spacers) and a hole saw. You’d still want to line it up as well as you can but that allows for a clean arc without requiring much skill. You would then round the edges with a palm sander or even by hand sanding.

different sized hole saws allow for different arcs and are great to have as tools for the future. Just make sure your scrap is positioned to ensure the center bore stays secure for the depth of the cut.

    Got a used BamBed
One panel is warped might see if I can buy a new replacement, or wet one side and lay it with something atop see if that flattens It

rear panel almost clears my stiffeners (doesn’t) seems like only a few mm shaved off could make it work
Thinking of taking it to a furniture builder ask how much to do that modification
    Just because I don’t have a router

so it gets modded nice without turning into looking crap

gonna look what accessories there are and if it’s coated
If I should sand, blow air, paint varnish or stain to waterproof (truck beds are usually not watertight)

the carpet squares sounds easier and nicer looking than typical glue on rug for home made platforms

I have extra grey paint I used on my old home made bed sold to a friend
But IMP the BamBed is beautiful how it comes and brushing grey on would look ugly

so far very happy with it
Nice finish, curved, good quality wood
    Modular, handles carryable
My old bed was more “permanent”, large, and more PITA

storage underneath I still have is 3 huge long sterilite clear containers from Walmart, that I slide in two forward. And one at the back sideways

gonna figure out what size mattress needed for 5’ shortbed
As that sounds way better than my last setup which was 4” bare foam that didn’t cover whole bed and doesn’t really have a cleanable cover to keep the foam in good shape
    I think the trifold for 5’ not 4fold (6’)

That's a great idea, better than carpet for sure.

But, wait, you didn't cut out the handles? :)

Would be a nice factory option, especially if available in multiple colors...

Those small cutouts are there so the platform can be optionally secured to the bed with camstraps for hard off road driving. The platform stays put really well on it's own so I don't really ever use them.

I like where your heads at! I'll look into it for the tacoma products first, which are my best seller by far.

Saw the new new today at expo, great talking to you Ben. I said that I had made the suggestion for what you cooked up. Thought it was in this thread but it's not. On my drive to Boise this afternoon kept thinking of this new product so depending on which way I go this will be what i'm getting for my sleeping solution.

Can you stand and walk on the boards? I am thinking to use them as floor and storing items under them. I am buying a pop up camper and these boards would be lighter weight than a Decked System.

I've been working on a new half/full Bambeds design for people that want something smaller and better suited for solo trips with the option to run as a full width on couples trips.
There are a few advantages and disadvantages in comparison to the original 3 panel BamBed design

    Advantages:
-Stiffer since the free span is much lower. If you're planning on walking on top of the platform this is a more stable design. GFC/TopoTopper/SuperPacific people, I'm talking to you.
-Can fit a mountain bike inside the bed with a front wheel removed, great for solo stealth camping.
-Is very stable in 3 different modes (1/2, 3/4 and 4/4 panels in place) 1/4 also is mostly stable but there's nowhere good to tie it to the bed so if you hit the gas hard it could slide back.

    Disadvantages:
-Less free space underneath due to center support rail (could be an issue if you're used to putting things in diagonally underneath the original bambed)
-More expensive for full bed coverage (original design involves fewer cuts and is cheaper)

Apologies for the poor photos, haven't had the chance to get out to the mountains yet!
3D model (long bed variant) is on the website if you want to see exactly what you're getting.

Let me know if you have any questions, We're shipping these now (Birch only at this time)

For anyone willing to help me out with product photos, I'm offering a $100 rebate if I end up using any or all of your photos/videos/GIFs on the website.

Thank you all for your support these last couple years!

My Tacoma solo platform design is off to a great start.
I've personally spent a few nights sleeping on it so far and really enjoy the 3/4 mode functionality which gives you a broad area to sleep on and enough space to get your shoes on in the truck bed.

If you're an old BamBeds customer and want to upgrade to the new design, send me your name and original order number in a tacomaworld DM and I'll get you $50 off.
