Technically don't have a Tacoma yet but here's my 1987 Toyota Pickup 4x4. Looking to add a first gen Tacoma to the fleet one day.IMG_2006.jpg

The body on your pickup is in excellent condition, by the looks of the photo!
My '87 is a great runner, but the body is in desperate need of a paint job...it's the last thing on the list for the old gal.
Is your rig pushed around by a carb. or EFI?

Get ready for a completely different ride in a Gen. 3!

    Cheers

Thank you! For the most part the body is in good condition. Plenty of paint blemishes that you can see closer up. I'm uncovering rust under the spray on bed liner so in the process of addressing that. Seems like they didn't prep the bed well and moisture was able to build up under the bed liner over the years.

It's carbureted. Wish I had the EFI 22RE but the 22R is solid too. Just takes a bit longer to start after I haven't driven it for a while.

A buddy of mine has the 3rd gen and the ride is definitely smoother. There's just something about throwing around the smaller pickup though. Planning to install a Total Chaos LT kit at some point once I learn to weld well enough.

Junk, I'll give you $50 for it because I'm nice. ;)

I miss the heck out of my 1984, son of a land cruiser for sure.

Only thing I don't miss is that the bed seam would rust in a light morning dew. Only was to fix it was to separate the welds, clean the goop out toyota used, respot it and then lead it in. It's why you saw so many back in the day running around with a flatbed instead of a box on it. It's not that people wanted the flatbed, it's because it rusted to pieces right in front of their eyes. The rest of the truck held up fine.

    You nailed it!
That is how you can tell which rigs were shipped to the USA without a bed. Toyota did this because of the import costs they saved, since it was not a complete vehicle, it was cheaper to get them into the States. The bed was added once they were in the USA. All the Toyotas with the bed made in Japan have no issues with rust (you'll know them by the rolled top edge of the bed.
You used lead filler...good 'ole school fix that lasts. I'm thinking of respotting that seam and finishing it with a quality seam sealer one of these days.

I hear you about the warm up...but boy is it easy to work on, and tune!
The fewer electronics, the better, in my opinion.

    Cheers

The ''chicken tax'' pushed and lobbied for by chicken s--t US truck manufacturers who were getting their butts kicked on the car side because their quality was non existent and they didn't want to improve it, just quash competition.
