That’s what we’re in… Katrina was like a week plus of just pure extreme heat. I remember eating an MRE in the house of heat afterwards. It was my lowest moment from that time.

so, funny story from then: I’ve worked in some crazy places, so at the time, I had a full breather suit with high filter applications. I can’t smell anything and I look like a Martian. My job was to go through friends houses and film or to help remove freezers or fridges and then once outside, empty and hose out. Most of these had been growing for several weeks and contained anything. Deep chest freezers were particularly terrible. The fun was identifying things that were unrecognizable. So, while working my own fridge, I noticed this oozy white mushroom looking fungus and was baffled. What did this grow from, what the hell could it be? After peeling and scraping it from all over, it came to me! My wife has a “calling” to forever posess at least two cans of biscuits at any time. These had clearly exploded and continued to proof and grow as they waited for me, obviously.

We had no generator when we went through Ike. Fortunately all structures were undamaged, unlike Katrina. But it was two and a half weeks without electricity. Sleeping in the living room, windows open, wishing like hell that there was just a whisper of a breeze. I vowed to not get caught like that again.

Funny you mention the freezer. My company at the time kept a pair of staff apartments in West Africa. We ended the lease to one. I was tasked with moving the valuables out of it and using those to furnish the other apartment. I enter the building, start packing up furniture and figuring out how to get appliances down a narrow set of stairs and into our weird little four door Ranger short bed. Now, all utilities had been shut for four months at that point. And I made the mistake of opening the freezer. The inside was pure black... something. I don't know. It seemed to absorb the little bit of light that was in the room. But it was the instant smell of death that knocked me back. I closed that freezer, closed and locked the door, and noped my ass right down the stairs. And the smell followed. Downstairs neighbors were coming out of their apartments to yell at me. I called the Houston office and told them that I refuse to go in there again. That's too nasty for an hourly lab tech to handle.

Three weeks after I locked that door the landlord called Houston and said "I'm sending you another bill. It's called the 'even animals don't live in that level of filth - charge.'"

House is fine. On generator for basics. The hurricane shuffle. Did good, but a lot of water. I showed 8.5” but they registered 9”. It cut through a lot of areas that were already beat up. I was on the power side, but mostly hart East wind, which is a semi sheltered side. When it moved to North, it wasn’t as strong, so spared.

 

Some fun places. I like the silver. Those look a lot like the TSS six shooters (Texas edition). You got them on the truck?

 

They are aware. Some would call it in and wait for an immediate response to come get it. And when we don’t come they bring it in. We come early and it’s not out. They call again…..

Sometimes you gotta tell management they need someone more agreeable. It just ain’t happening. I’m not sure if it will work in your case, but it’s worth putting it out there.

 

I use my own with a nitrile glove. They also have foam triangles that work great too.
