Next project mower. Not sure how these stand up ZTs sell, but we gonna find out.

Damn things are rare and expensive used, at least in the New Orleans 200 mile search. Sure do look cool though.

I ran one last year. There is definitely a learning curve. Much steeper than learning a sit down ZT.

Once you grasp the concept, they are even faster than a sit down version.

You see a lot of them being used around this area by the commercial folks.

    Got the ZT running.

Seems to run good. Will need the main seal replaced.

The dirt on this deck is only a fraction I had to wade thru to remove the deck.

Details in my thread if interested.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
When I start in on something like that, first thing I do is give it a good hosing with the garden hose, and a spritz of Dawn dish soap.

Put the debris away from the real work area, and makes things so much easier!

    Oh, I did.

I pressure washed as much filth as possible off the thing. The design just prevents proper dirt removal.

Now that the deck is separate, it's will be a joy to pressure wash.

Tried to put the L245 to work a couple of times. Thinking I could save some cash and not buy a cutter this year I rented a JD 72" rotary cutter from sunbelt and it was a failure. Super heavy cat1/2 mower, had troubles getting it in and out of the trailer. Once mounted up the pto coupler was seized and I couldn't get it on the PTO shaft. Returned it for a refund and spent most of the day exhausted after trying to man handle it.

    20240816_104051 - Copy.jpg

Decided to buy a 5' county line cat1 from a TSC couple towns over. It is nearly 250lbs lighter than the JD I rented and bogs the tractor down in super thick grass but the growth was anywhere from 5 to 7 feet tall in different places around the property. I have a feeling once I am regularly cutting 1-2 feet instead of 5-7 it wont bog the tractor as much. 5' is probably the biggest I would go on this thing after using it. Tractor handles very nicely with it, added about 200ish lbs to the weight rack to offset it and it controlled all the bouncing really well. All in all this combo handled 5 acres with no problems, about a days worth of mowing when there is stuff in the way. In the future some will be turned to lawn grass and wont require the rotary cutter.

I agree with you, once you get it manageable it should do just fine keeping it under control

Take half width cuts in the tall/thick stuff and see if that helps.

5' hog is all most "regular" size tractors tolerate well. especially if its in tall stuff.

good thing is if its real tall? you just go slower & let the hog eat. be sure to run it up there at the proper RPM for your tractor! helps a ton on bogging & keeps your tractor cooler.

    EDIT NOTE: thats a L245... 25hp tractor...
you really should be hogging in the lower range gear & up about 2300 or so RPM at a minimum. This is definitely all the hog you want for the 245.

yup i used the 1' for every 5hp calculator most people recommend. I think the L245 was rated at like 23hp PTO so I rounded up cause I really didn't want a 4' mower with the wheel base being just over 5'. Probably should have rounded down but I was happy with the 5' performance and no stores had a 4' in stock and charged an extra $200 to freight one in.
Some of the shorter less thick stuff I could cruise through in second gear high (6th) but the majority was the thick tall stuff so I had to bump down to first high (5th) and raise the mower. Seemed to be fairly happy with that combo. Looking at the gear ratio to speed calculator on tractor data fourth low (4th) looks just a smidge slower than 5th so I could always use that when it starts to bog. but now that its mowed down I doubt it will have that issue again as long as I stay on top of it.

I've been running a 6' for years with 60HP cause the price jump from 6' to 8' is more than I wanted to pay :D

Currently a 17 yr old CharMaster.

Ordered a Crown Royal 7300 MP. They'll deliver it 2nd week of October( about when the OWB is lit, give or take a week)
The Char-Master sat in the tool barn & used the skid to move the large woodboxes that held 1- 1/2 cords of wood..

This one will sit outside so changes will need to be made, but the same line sets will be used

Yeah 60hp tractor is large tractor for hobby farm guys.

Most of us play at it guys have 40hp or smaller.

Honest: my hog is actually an L66 Kubota hog. Weird size, I know.

& that L245 will do fine with that 5' hog. You hit it right on the head, most 245guys over on OTT run 4th L & full PTO speed.

Cut some garage firewood today. Cut down a wild cherry tree. Looks like carpenter ants had the same plan. They just work slower than me. Those bass tards are in every cherry I've cut down on my property.

Dang, I am dealing with the same issue. Carpenter ants are in the hickory trees and I have beetles in the other trees. Was thinking about getting the wood burning stove setup in the basement but I really don’t want bugs in the house.
