TRD Jon interviewed Sheldon Brown. It was “casting debris” that was not properly cleaned by the vendor.

TRD Jon should have asked him why it takes so long to get replacement parts to affected customers. I think Toyota is far better than other manufacturers, and chases down the problem quickly, but having to wait for a month or longer is unacceptable.

Yeah sure.....go in there and demand they replace your transmission and TC without and codes showing. Please record them laughing at you.

I think in the hybrids the TC is basically the electric motor clutch .. but I’m not sure. But that could be the difference. Still doesn’t explain the July build pro failure of a TW member.

Everyone who kept their 78 Pinto is laughing now.

    Edit

This is my legacy... I hope not! I kid Toyota. I like that Toyota has fully embraced their status as a legacy auto manufacturer, and they can still dabble in BEV. Things happen, and it's still a new model. Hope everyone who is affected gets it worked out.

I'm wondering if it's truly a debri issues, even if it wasn't from manufacturing, something inside the transmission could be wearing and produce debri.

Yeah. The debris seems to be the default answer and smells like bullshit unless like you said it’s actually a failing part making debris

I saw that, and as I recall, he said it affected a "few early transmissions" and was addressed by the manufacturer quickly. Didn't sound like the number of vehicles in the TSB.

according to the TSB in the OP, the fix is a new transmission and torque converter.

You asked if you should wait until your first care visit to have the TSB done. The TSB is a new transmission and TC.

I guess it depends on why the solenoids are failing. If its due to some physical contaminant, then replacing just the solenoid is only a short term fix.

Yeah... obviously I wouldnt "demand they replace your transmission and TC without and codes showing" and would schedule the serivce like a sane person.
