Official TSB for automatic trans failure from Toyota.

My Pro is 3TYLC5LN and is not listed in the TSB drop down menu. I fact, there are none with the 5LN so I assume hybrid Pros are note affected????

A complete new transmission. Why is that a fail? Not like you have to have a class action lawsuit just for a manufacturer to acknowledge it. Only fail is irrational hysterical post from a rando on an internet forum.

 

It’s the opposite of a fail. It’s toyota fixing the problem all the way. Only questions: (1) why hybrids excluded and (2) what is the build date toyota fixed this on the manufacturing shop floor

 

Seems like I’m safe. A ton of 3TY builds on that list. I’m a 3TM build date 6/24

 

My dealer told me, and also if you had the pre-production temporary VIN, one of the numbers in it is the scheduled week of the year.

 

I hope that by August this issue was sorted out.

my truck had a build date of 4/24 and is not on this TSB its the last Vin on the page my last 5 14740

 

my only guess is since the hybrids were built much later, they already had the updated transmissions

 

But a few have failed

 

Curious what early warning signs are. Sometimes my truck, especially in idle when I’m about to move forward, kind of has a jumpy feeling in the transmission. Hard to describe. Nothing that bothers me other than now I’m paranoid it’s a sign.

 

Let me know if you ever get a shudder or vibration when moving slow in stop and go traffic when accelerating slowly or coming to a stop

 

Yes. It’s super minor. But yes. I’d like to know if that’s an issue or normal …?

 

This is what I don't understand. A 4/24 build isn't included and neither is a 6/24 build from 3TM. But my 6/24 build 3TY is included. It's just odd if there was an update to the manufacturing for it to be that way. I guess they could have knowingly allowed the possibly bad transmissions already out there to go into trucks but 4/24 to 6/24 is a big gap.

Edit: I know there aren't any answers they are willing to share with us.

 

The same logical inconsistency is going on in my head. I guess we just do not know what toyota knows about these transmissions and what happened different batches at aisin, production lines at toyota plants , etc,

 

Aisin probably builds at a minimum of 20K per month for the Tacoma, sent to 2 different plants for 7 different trims. Assume they send a batch each month so in 2 months if they were all put into production that’s 40K transmissions. Spread across all trim levels. They may have narrowed it down to certain times, shifts, employee training or lack of, or assembly lines, etc. It’s got to be pretty complex system! Seems they might have narrowed it down? Most importantly resolved the problem in the future.

 

Hmmmm… now I’m worried

 

I expected my VIN to be included, and it is. It sure isn’t a good feeling knowing that you could have a problem miles away from home. I would much rather have the problem resolved prior to something happening. It’s not comforting reading other threads about the sudden onset of the problem and drivers left stranded. Things happen every day, but this is a situation where the problem is known and can be remedied in advance. I sure hope the true outcome is not for thousands to be left wondering if/when their day will come.

 

Yeah. And what if the catastrophic failure never happens immediately but it shits the bed at 65,000 miles
