Had a transmission shop local to me do the service on my 2019 Tacoma 4x4 OR 3.5L they said it took 6 qts, does that sound about right ? As far as roughly the amount these transmission take? I was going to try and perform it myself but with the lack of time and experience doing it opt to dropping it off and having them do the maintenance. It has 80k miles on it and figured it needed to be done sooner than later and I will be on the road here shortly a bunch. They changed the filter and oil. Thanks.

That's too much for a drain and fill, and not enough for a flush...

Edit: I see they dropped the pan..

It depends, are they doing a flush, pan drop, or drain & fill?

Either way it’s too much I wonder if they charged me for 6 because they cycled it through the trans and then charged me for the waste oil

You do have to overfill to pull the Check Plug between 95 - 113 F until you get just a dribble.

Did you by any chance also have the engine oil changed?
6 Qts is what that takes.

Nope took it to a transmission shop but with that being said the lady at the front desk when she handed me the receipt with a line item it said 10 quarts of trans oil and I said I know it doesn’t take 10 quarts and so she said it was a typo and that she meant to change it to 6 before printing it out for me so maybe it was actually 3 or 4 that they actually used and she has no idea what she is talking about or typing out for a receipt.

If the 3rd gen tranny has similar capacity to 2nd gen, a pan drop results in losing about 4 quarts if memory serves from doing mine.

Meh, you'll only know what they tell you...
The fact of the matter is, if they did either one, and did in competently, you're good to go.

True true solid point. So how would I be able to tell if it was over filled ? And if it is would it cause damage ? I drive it this morning to work about 29 miles and seemed to function fine and feel smoother.

I called and they said the technician notes said he put 6 quarts and that the addition fluid was because of a new filter. I would like to think that they are competent since it’s a transmission shop named all auto transmission.
