That's how mine was when I got it. I took a rotary polisher to it the other day and it brought the gloss right back. And thanks for posting because it gives me hope for my paint from here on out.

Like you, waiting for them to fix your paint? No thx

or let me guess you don’t have 040 and just trolling

In 2031 you’ll be down to bare metal.

But for real.. I’ve owned two second gen’s and a third. The second gen is the much better option minus the interior and tech stuff

Every panel besides the bed has paint flaking on mine. Getting really frustrated with this situation. I don't want a new 2024 because my '17 is paid off and has been for a while so definitely not an option for me. I'll just raise hell when it comes time for Toyota to paint these things.

They have too many recalls that are higher priority.

This makes me sick, I’m so anal about my rides. I got a white 2022 and was wondering what year models are being effective the most ? I have no issues yet. I did get the Modesta Diamond coating done on the exterior paint (similar to ceramic). Maybe that will help. I don’t want to trade it in, I tend to keep vehicles till they decompose.

From what I’ve kept up with, a bunch of years are affected all the way back to 2nd gen. I have heard of a few 2021s that are affected but I’m not sure about 2022s and up, but they can’t be ruled out since it’s only been a few years. 2016-2022 are called out in the Customer Support Program.

Thanks for the response. It must be a flaw in the application of the paint. I have a white 2002 Yukon that is mint condition, no peeling, a white 1991 Isuzu truck with not peeling just fading from age. So it must be poor primer or paint or application at the Toyota assembly plant. It can’t just be because of the color.

Think a lot of it has to do with EPA regulation changes for auto paint. Although a different paint code, my 056 "Natural White" 2004 4Runner has immaculate paint considering its 20 years old.

Yeah, something in the 90’s changed? GM had a lot of vehicles with white paint failing. Maybe other manufacturers too? Toyota taking a long time trying to figure out a fix for this latest 040 paint problem. So not an easy fix.

Is there any reason for me to think my 24 will have this issue down the line? With all this history you’d think they’d have fixed it? And how could 2022s be impacted if they knew about this problem eons ago? Very perplexing.

When manufacturing something as complex as cars on a worldwide scale there are so many issues that pop up you can’t correct them all. There is limited time/money/resources so you just do what you can. If the issue costs the company more money than it takes to fix then it gets priority. It may just not have hit Toyotas wallet enough to invest the resources to correct.

Fair point. Wonder if it’s hit or miss or if they are all bad and it’s environmental factors that make some fail.

I noticed yesterday, when I was washing the truck, that my bed is peeling also. I’m sure this is not going to get covered. It’s the edges, I’m going to touch it up and hopefully it doesn’t continue. Even the gas door
