The 24 tacoma has a paint code of 0040 it is now a two stage paint where as the old icecap was a single stage but the paint pen Toyota gives you for the 24 is still called 040 with paint on one end and clear coat on the other.

good info there. I’m curious where you got information about the new version being two stage.

They changed the name because of how shitty the paint is hoping it would fool people (there’s a recall on 040 but doesn’t cover Tacoma)

I asked because the name change has been discussed before, but this was the first I’d seen something that looked definitive.

I actually had a deposit on a ‘23 white Tacoma, but switched to silver once I’d read about the trouble with this paint. So glad I did.

Nothing in this sentence is true.

There is a customer support program for 040 paint peeling that has existed for quite a while, and 3rd Gen Toyotas have been added from 2016-2022 model years. It’s not a recall. You have to bring your paint issue to the dealership and have it evaluated to see if the issue is covered by the CSP.

If other model years, whether older or newer, have enough complaints, the program may be expanded to additional model years.

040 is garbage my buddies second gen is more primer than white paint its not just Tacomas I see a bunch of corollas and Camrys and other Toyotas at stop lights with huge patches of 040 white paint missing

recall or not they outsource to a body shop since no Toyota stealership has a paint booth (not that I would trust any of those ass clowns painting my car) but I guarantee you every shop the contract does shit paint work (only high end shops do quality work when it comes to prep and paint)

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of Toyota owners who have problems with 040 don’t know about the CSP.

But yea you’re right the dealers often sub out the work to body shops. Likely because they don’t have the capacity to work the number of affected vehicles.

I am a 2015 owner who spent $1600 out of pocket to have a door repainted, very pissed there is no 2nd gen coverage yet. But at least 3rd gen owners will get taken care of.

Regarding the 040 horror stories here, I’d hope this would be fixed on my 24 Tacoma … would be bizarre if Toyota allowed such a major issue to persist as it would cost them more down the line

They did nothing about frames rusting in half for 30 years, some bad paint isn’t a surprise.

Why does the Toyota 'white' have so many issues? It's just another 'color', right?
