Now, I know people can be quite .. passionate, about their truck and generation. BUT, i just wanted to make thread about it, and how do you think 3rd gens are holding up compared to 2nd gens? Now obviously 2nd gens have more time on them, but those who had 2nd gen and now have 3rd gen, do you think the truck overall has been improved or otherwise?

For example 4runner wise, I believe 5th gen is the best, because its unique looks and well, it has same engine and transmission from previous gens, its ancient and reliable. Can't say same about Tundra that dropped its V8.

You are late to the party. The 4th gen is out.

The 3rd Gen should hold up just as good as the 2nd Gen.
The 3rd Gen has the potential to be a bit "harder" and "slightly" more expensive to work on when the time comes.
But they BOTH will likely hold up the same.

I've had both. They're both good. I'd drive either if I knew the history on it from day 1. Don't overthink it or get wrapped up in this is better than that. Best condition at the best price wins, it's just a truck.

I had a 2005 and now a 2021. They're both solid. Just had to go a tune to the 21 since they are restricted from the dealer. The interior in the 21 feels ever so slightly smaller due to more air bags but that's a good trade off. To me, the seats in the second Gen were slightly more comfortable. I have a love hate relationship with all the electronics in the 3rd Gen since I feel like a cranky old man. I do enjoy the back up camera. I still think the 3rd Gen is an upgrade from the second Gen.

There is a search function if you insist on flogging a dead horse.
