Same, I don't mind taking the truck in for a scheduled replacement. I just don't want it to happen 1000 miles from home on pikes peak which is a trip we are planning.

My truck has been great so far, except for a few early morning shifts that were more noticeable. Not bad, just not perfectly smooth (still better than my 3rd Gen). The fact that others reported no symptoms before failure concerns me.

Most of the time you can't "ask" to have the TSB done unless you are having the symptoms and issues that the TSB addresses. Dealers have done TSB's on request when its just a software update etc if you know the key words that will trigger the TSB (ie 3rd gen trans software update) a large component like the transmission they are not going to change on request without a failure or codes.

Which is why I asked if the TSB had any language as to how long they would honor it for. (after warranty/number of years/miles etc). There usually is a limit. For those with the affected vins it would be good info to know, in case you didn't want to unknowingly have to buy a transmission if the TSB coverage period expires.

What about them pulling engines in Tundras that haven’t grenaded? Wasn’t that also due to debris?

I don’t typically buy the first year of new gens, but I actually went into this one thinking Toyota had learned from the Tundra experience.

They are replacing the Tundra engines prior to them "grenading" because they issued a safety recall. Different from a TSB.

Thanks for clarifying. We can only hope this TSB gets escalated as more failures occur.

Lol 4th gen guys getting all defensive. This isnt the normal Toyota, having to replace full transmissions on such new vehicles is sad... they may as well be Ford.

Its a fail that it has to be replaced in the first place in this mass amount.... the REAL question is HOW did toyota allow such a transmission, bumpstop failures, etc etc etc in the recent year even make it to the production line. the QA and proper testing obviously wasnt done nearly to the same standards as in the past.

I’m not going to disagree with you. I’m not really getting defensive - I just think it’s good they are starting to address it. That said, if my tranny shits the bed and it’s not quickly resolved … I’ll sell it at a loss and go back to the Grenadier dealership. At this point all emotion over this is gone. I’ll simply act accordingly.

The longest one has lasted so far is about 6,000 miles? With sand floating around I can’t imagine a transmission lasting very long.. Kinda surprising failures are not almost immediate?

That is a good point. Hard to believe a bad transmission would get beyond the 60k warranty. It sucks but prob not end of the world. We shall see.

It’s my fault for engaging the trolls .. you would think I would learn? Ignoring them is most effective.

Do you have any shudder in the tranny at stop or slow speeds? The fact that I have some of that is disconcerting when reading the 4G thread I posted earlier.

I think I saw one here report failure past 7k, but you make a good point. I’m about to hit 4k.
