Overland Torque Tune (OTT) by Overland Tailor

Got tuned today with mild/medium. My god what a difference. My only regret is not doing this sooner.

 

Isn’t that the truth!!! Every time I drive it, I’m still amazed; Had it done 2 months ago and every time I drive it, I tell my wife “best $500 we ever spent”

 

I’m convinced these are all burner accounts linked to the companies that do OTT tune

 

I disagree. There’s probably some confirmation bias, but seeing how @JustDSM has been so involved over the years in here with little to no drama (unlike the other people selling tune packs) I would agree that the OTT is a good product.

I got OTT tune on my 2023 TRD OffRoad 6MT, last monrh. I luv it!

 

I bought the DIY kit and the five tuning files.
I installed #3 of 5, the "MM" Mild/Medium ECT file.

This is a huge improvement in both performance and driveability over factory stock.
With a light foot, my lower gear shift points are just under 2,000 rpm now.
ECT mode shifts around 2500+

The v2.x latest software from VF Tuner is a PITA and finicky.
I did get it working with help from John at OTT, and I'm a 5 decade IT guy.

Today, I see VF Tuner 3.0.0 is now released, and my brand new v2.x will no longer work.
Figures.

I wonder how long it will be before v3.1, v3.2, v3.3 are released with the latest round of bug fixes for this new release.

Those wanting to do the DIY route ($900 with NoCo Genius 10 charger), are well advised to use the instructions provided by OTT.
And follow them to the letter.
Read, re-read, and re-read once again.

 

Why so much different tunes? OTT supposely plenty tuners in California.

 

We provide the end user with the full suite of throttle choices we offer, allowing you to select the best match for your needs/wants/desire/use.

 

Why?
Because I do not want to be dependent upon the schedule of a tuner vendor, nor put up with the travel time, delays, and appointments.
Tuners go out of business, and I don't want my investment to evaporate when he closes up his shop.

For those wanting to tinker with the various tunes, it is far less hassle to hook up the laptop, and flash the desired tune.
Or flash back to stock.

Time is money.
I figure each tuning appointment is going to cost me $$.
Nobody should work for free.

The investment in the Pro version of VF Tuner, plus the additional licenses for each VIN, mounts up.
The tuner has to purchase the suite of five tunes for each client he services.
There is a lot of $ overhead, and the guy still has to make a profit.

 

Just ordered the self tune kit for my 6MT model yesterday, can't wait to receive the cable and finally experience how the truck should have been from the factory. Thank you for your dedication to these trucks and for the assistance in getting everything processed! I installed all the software on my laptop, ordered the suggested noco genius 10, and now wait (im)patiently for the cable to arrive. Plan to stick with the mild throttle setting as I don't like extremely sensitive throttle for my daily driver. I will report back my impressions once I get some time driving with the tune.

 

Q: do the different tune versions each raise the shift RPM higher than the previous tune level?

Or, are the shift point unchanged, and only the amount of torque request (pedal) is different?

I have the MM tune, Mild/Medium ECT.
I'm looking to move up to the Medium/Spicy ECT to see if this raises my shift rpms a bit over Mild/Medium.

 

Throttle control is the difference in the files. Despite this, you might notice a slight change in shift points due to differences in the amount of pedal application used to achieve your desired rate of acceleration.

What I did notice when I first had a higher flavor...lol

Was that the throttle was overtly responsive to the pedal touch...which made it feel quirky.

That has been corrected with my lower flavoring...still using that phrase for the setting.

As of now with Mild Drive/Spicy ECT, the response is perfect (for me) when I apply foot pressure.

Whether heavy application or mild, the response is much more noticeable with ECT engaged...I love it!

Darn.
I was operating under the mistaken idea that the more spicy tunes raised the shift points.
I do get higher RPM shift points when I have my foot in it more.

I'm currently at MM which is Mild / Medium ECT.
This gives me a slight jerk when starting from a dead stop.
I've learned to live with it, but will step down a notch to Lite / Mild just to see the difference.

I've been waiting a few days to see if the new VF Tune 3.0 has any early reported bugs, and a hot fix release.
Inspection of the installer file shows a version of "3.0.1.1"
Those wanting to stay on top of the bug fixes are well advised to download the installer, then check Properties | Details to see the file version.

I am a seriously unhappy camper right now.

I think it would be best to keep the VF stuff separate from the OTT stuff. While it’s related to some extent, issues with VF should be addressed with VF directly or in a VF specific thread.
