That's an interesting idea and I do not know if anyone has tried a bed tent over a rack. It would certainly limit head room. My concern is the rack interfering with the tent poles as they like a gentle curve.
Depending how much weather/ bug sealing you need when camping you could always put a tarp over the rack like @pearing does. Or drape the tent over the rack without poles.

A rack shouldn't add enough weight to require heavier leaf packs. I had Rola ladder rack on mine in part because it was so light weight.

When I had the rack I tried a tent inside the perimeter. Worked for a solo, but to tight with my wife too. Never bonded with it...

I can't say I've found a rack, until now, that's completely adjustable all around. L×W×H.
I really just want it to get the spare out of the bed. A suspended tire rack that I can still use my tonneau with. Basically.
If I can collapse it as small as it goes I would gain some head/sitting room toward the tailgate. Maybe it would work.

Or like you said...Don't use the tent poles.

At 3 am I wake up and think of bed racks instead of big racks.....getting old.

Uniballs unfortunately are just a wearable item. What are you lubing them with?

The web site said Trifliw and that is what I have been using. Any other UCA options you recommend?

We can loop in @906taco; we just redid all my LCA/UCA joints over the summer. I think the uniballs are just the best option for function with the downside that they’re just a wear item that needs to be replaced with some regularity. You can go for some of the other ball joint options but they’ll all introduce some amount of slop/imprecision to the mix.
