Mine sits in the shade. So it does really age like most things do that are exposed to the sun.

My particular version has one flap thats kind of concaved to catch the air and get pushed opened.

 

Good morning stockers! I had the ABS light turn on in the '99 T4R. I stared at it for a week and it wasn't fixing itself, so yesterday I found a gravel road and gave it a speed test. No ABS action at all, just all 4 tires locking up and skidding. ( old school !) A bit of interwebs searching after realizing that my scanner couldn't read the codes ( even though its supposed to have that function) The common issues seemed to be a burned out 3rd brake light or low fluid level in the MC reservoir. Nope.. I can't get that lucky. I had to pop the DIAG port under the hood and jumper 2 terminals and count the flashes on the dash. I got a solid code 31- RF speed sensor. I looked quickly and didn't see any critter teeth marks on the wires and no obvious damage. The aftermarket prices are all over the place- Beck Arnley around $150, Wells Vehicle Electronics around $50. The local Napper wants $185 for their reboxed dorman part.. I need to pull the tire and check the ohms at the plug, but me tinks it's time for another trip to the pick and pull.. I'll just look for a Taco/T4R and take a $5 chance.

 

Yeah...rodent damage would have been my first guess too. Hope you get it sorted
