Today I added a couple promo accessories:
    1. A hitch skid; solid aluminum. I know it might decrease the departure angle some but would rather it take the brunt of any impacts than my receiver or bumper.

    2. NiLight recovery boards. I'm more likely to use these for snow than anything else since that is more common than sand/water/mud here in the Rockies. Still need to find a mounting solution; only one fits in the front of my bed with my shovel. Or I could just toss them in the bed in their carry bag I suppose (I have a hard tonneau so they shouldn't get pinched by someone). No, I don't have a bed rack nor intend to get one.

wha wha..what? the hitch skid plugs into the hitch socket. anything it hits, goes right to the receiver mounting.

Color me "I don't get it"

Right, I've pondered that too. I figure that (a) it is a smoother surface with angles and less likely to get snagged; and (b) since it goes 6" into the receiver it will distribute any impact across a broader area. And it has a light duty recovery point. Also note the point that I got some promo items that are nice to have. And I might not be the first person on this forum to get something for my truck that I don't truly need.

I'm new to posting here, but I'm on my fourth Toyota 4x4 (0ne was a 2000 PreRunner TRD, 2WD....but, it worked as hard as a 4). The new one is a 2021 TRD Sport Premium that might be the last truck I purchase. Flew to SLC from AZ and drove her home the same day. It was a much easier drive at 21 than at 58, LOL. Today, I tackled the gravy job of adding some steps to this little gem. I figured that pix would suffice and it went pretty smoothly for someone who hasn't really wrenched on a vehicle for fun in quite a while. I'm in the far east end of the valley and that puts a few spots well within reach.
Thanks for having a community that is extremely knowledgeable and is an absolute gift of information. I'll shut up, now.
I look forward to enjoying my time here.

I, too, moved from a Prerunner (2005) access cab and previous to that had a 1983 4WD SR5. Both had long beds and now that I have a '23, which is really nice with the options, the ONLY thing I miss is the long bed. I've never had anyone in the back seat and don't plan to, either! Yea, I've heard that a long bed was available....but finding one, or even one with an access cab is harder than finding flyshit in pepper.

You can use Carista to enable memory for the selection so that if you turn it off, it stays off upon restart. It will still always light up the indicator when it’s off.

Yes.... less than 5 minutes per side.

Pop the cap out of the bed (from the bottom). Use a 10mm socket and remove the 3 (lower) bolts holding the taillight assy in place, pull the taillight assy rearward and it snaps out. Inside the cavity where the taillight assy was you will see a protective cap on a wire. Unplug that. No need to remove the body mounted protective cap. From the cavity, fish your new wire up to where you removed the cap in the bed where the new light goes. Attach to the new light and snap the new light in place. Now, plug in the new wire into the OEM wire that you unplugged from the protective cap. On the new wire there will be a plastic "keeper". Press that into one of the holes just above where that wire feeds into. That is just to keep the wire from moving around and chaffing. Push your taillight assy back into place and reinstall the 3-10mm bolts and one side is done. Do the same on the other side, sit back and enjoy the new light in your bed. Note, the switch in the cab has an off/door/ON positions. Pretty self explanatory.

Have you tried spraying them with black bedliner? That is pretty popular around here. light buff with sandpaper, wipe off with rubbing alcohol, tape them off and spray.
Brand Hurculiner, probably the most aggressive, and brand Rust-o-leum, more of a smooth finish will give you a durable surface. I had an FJ Cruiser for a while and I just sprayed PlastiDip on the bumper tips to see how well I'd like it....and liked it so much that 4 years later the plastiDip was still there and still looked pretty good.

Decided to install a tailgate hinge lock. Although my truck has a locking tailgate that works with my fob and tonneau cover, I just like the piece of mind. And it's a nice clean fit.

I too went with this shock setup. Fronts took the longest to get and they came about 3 weeks after order. Must be getting caught up. Wait time was really no big deal.

Made a cardboard glove box organizer. Once I was happy with the fit, I made one out of 1/4" HDPE. Yes I know the aftermarket makes these. Why buy something I can build with scraps in the barn.

Great instructions but the taillight is held on by 2, not 3, bolts.

I guess I removed the third one unintentionally.... For future reference, which TWO? I knew the top one held the bed to the truck and left it alone.
