Pretty much all FS districts are claiming they’re broke these days. Not too surprised they closed it, they still haven’t fixed the campgrounds that got damaged in the floods either. So if they don’t have the money to repair facilities that generate income no way will they repair that section of the road.

well this isn't the FS closing it. It's the county as it's a county road until the trail head. It's a SUPER long road that goes way back there. Plus there are lots of cabins so I'd imagine between the 4wd crowd and residents back there they are gonna raise hell.

    what's up Doc?
Just wanted to say hi, as I live in Kalispell too.
And hi to everyone else. I've been out of circulation for awhile. Been focusing on the real world, rather than TacomaWorld.

Inconvenience is all it was honestly. Spent a couple hours taking it to a tire shop to be checked. Kid was very thorough and didn’t charge us. I guess we feel like we wasted a couple days of our trip there. We were being tourists and were mostly there to explore the parks.

Love your attitude! Have to admit our first trip here we got a flat tire too. But it was from driving a rental car where it wasn't meant to go!

    Hi @Pigpen !
guess I haven't seen you post in awhile. I'm driving a black 2014 double cab with ~3 inch lift and 285/75 r17s on SCS wheels, Demello Customs front full hoop bumper, trimmed fenders. I try to wave at other Tacomas when I can. I know that's more of a leftover from my jeep days thing but.. Stay Cool, stay hydrated!

Let's join the Big Sky 4 Wheelers Snow Bash event as a local meet-n-wheel, in addition to whatever other meetups happen. Fun event, money helps local offroading.

Welp MT tacomas may be adding yet another resident in the next few years. Down in the Bitterroot from Glacier NP the last few days both wifey and me love it. Looking at some places in Stevensville tomorrow but realistically still a couple years from making it happen.

Not all MT but have my NP pics up in my build thread.
If you're here in the Bitterroot and see me rolling around the next few days please don't flip me off for wanting to add to the population :rofl::rofl::rofl: #notcaplates

Question for anyone who might be able to help. I am trying to sell some Bilstein shocks, struts, coils and tophats from now gone 2019. When I try to post on 3rd gen marketplace it says Create Valid Title. Also trying to see if anyone needs a stock grill and black and chrome surround.
I am not trying to skirt any rules, just can't post in marketplace because of title and I have tried many, many titles!
    In Belgrade.

If you are using a VPN that might be the issue.

Hi all, I come to your thread looking for advice. My wife and I are doing our second road trip from MD to MT next month with our two dogs. We will be staying in the Flathead Lake area and I was hoping to get recommendations on trails with water access for my older Lab to go swimming.

I used to take him on hikes and such but now that he’s older and recently won a battle with cancer (with a clean bill of health for now), he seems to enjoy hanging out in the water instead because it’s easier on his joints and body.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s a recent pic of my boy because who doesn’t like an unsolicited dog pic…

Most of the high trails don't have a lot of water so you're going to want to stick to the valley.
That being said Jewel Basin does have some lakes. It's about a 5 mile round trip from the Camp Misery trailhead.
In the park Lake MacDonald is drive to. Permit season is over so you don't have to have a reservation. Logan Pass may or may not be open depending on weather. Haven't seen anything yet on what the plan is but it's usually mid October.
The North Fork out of Colmbia Falls has river access. There are a couple of day use areas with a short walk to drive up accessibility.
Upper Whitefish Lake should be pretty that time of year and is drive up. If you continue up the road to Red Meadow Lake you can make a loop out of it and the North Fork. If you go that route I highly suggest Werner Peak Lookout. Very rough road in spots. Go slow if you take a low clearance vehicle.
Just north of Whitefish is Smith Lake trailhead. Thers a trail to hike around the lake and loops thru the forest. I don't recall what the lake access is like as it's been a few years. There is also Whitefish Lake State Park. Not many hiking trails but has lake access.
West of town 45-60 minutes(?) Is Lupine Lake Trail. Roughly 5-6 mile roundtrip to the lake and has a waterfall and creek crossing in the first mile.
South and west of Kalispell is Somers Beach State Park. 1/2 mile roundtrip along the shore of Flathead Lake. Depending on when they draw the lake down the beach can be quite expansive or very short.
Further south at Lakeside the town park does NOT allow dogs. (Boooo!) But you can drive up Blacktail Mountain all the way to the radar dome for a nice view.
Continuing south there are a couple State parks on Flathead and Lake Mary Ronan. There are several short hiking trails at each.
Going south and east to Bigfork... State Park in Bigfork along the lake. Short trails and good water access. Lots of people.take their dogs there.
Also Swan River Nature trail is an old roadbed trail along the Swan River and reservoir. 1 mile from town you hit the reservoir or you can drive east of town on hwy 209 to the bridge and walk along the reservoir from that end.
Those are probably the highlights but there are other fishing accesses and short hikes scattered around the valley. Depending on when you come it may be rifle season. Starts Oct 26th so bring orange. The bears will be in hyper eating mode from now until they den so bring bear spray.
    Have fun!

Awesome! thank you so much for taking the time to write that all up, I apologize for just responding. I really appreciate all the recommendations! We visited Kalispell last year, such a beautiful place you live in!

We actually tried to make it up to Werner Peak last year but my wife got too scared of the shelf road and we had to turn around half way up. Here’s a shot from that harrowing experience…

    IMG_0263.jpg

If you zoom in, you can tell the beagle was displeased lol. We plan on avoiding shelf roads this year since we learned of her phobia of falling off the edge. What a silly thing to be afraid of, right?

Yeah for some people that can be very scary. Maybe have her drive this time! Then she has something to thi k about other than falling off. You can come in from the back but I'd have to research the road numbers. It's all forested until about 2 miles from the Lookout. You (driver) would be on all the downhill sides.
