Hi all, Just had my 2023 Limited first oil change. I noticed that there was a trail of oil on the driveway from the truck. It wasn't very much and appeared to be old oil. I popped the hood and looked with a flashlight and it appears that there is a bit of oil in the skid plate that I thought they would need to have removed to do the oil change. The plug is not dripping and there was one drip this morning under the truck. I reached up as high as I could on top of the skid plate with a paper towel to wipe up the oil as best I could. Does it seem like maybe they were just a bit sloppy when pulling the oil filter? Seems like if they had pulled the skid plate, there would be no chance of old oil in it. Or, did they maybe not get the oil filter tight? Any any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

The dealer should have removed the skid plate to get to the oil filter. They could have re-attached the skid plate and spilled some oil while filling. There are two things you can do.
    1. Drop the skid plate, clean everything up and watch for leaks.
    2. Take it back to the dealer and make them investigate the oil source.

Check engine oil level. The dealer who did the first oil change is sloppy, and lazy. The OEM Skid plate needs to be removed to replace engine oil filter, and need special wrench to remove filfer canister. Check out if canister is loose, probraly remove skid plate. Call the delaer that did oil change, have them check out oil leak.

Mine drips every time they touch it. You have to clean it up afterwards

If you are not very careful with the oil pan drain process it can easily splash within the skid plate and takes weeks to drip out. 50/50 I make a mess and just remove it, clean, reinstall... 4 bolts: 5 minutes.

For the front skid plate (I guess it's possible to change filter w/o removing, but that would suck). I: remove skid plate (Easy), complete the service and actually leave it off for a day, or maybe until the next weekend to make sure there are no leaks.

Check the oil level first- if it is really low I wouldn’t drive it and would have it flat bedded to the service center for them to document the situation and to fix it. They screwed up and it’s their mess.

If it’s not low, clean the oil filter canister and run the engine, then recheck the edges and bottom of the oil canister afterwards for fresh oil drips. If a bit of oil is present it is probably due to a canister o-ring not being seated properly and you can either remove it and reinstall it properly on your time or have the service do it as well.

If it’s clean then they probably sloshed the oil during the oil filter change and made a mess of it. Like others said you can clean the skid pan and it will probably stop dripping. Just check the oil filter canister and your oil levels more often in case it is still leaking.

maybe unfair, but this is sign of shoddy work to me. I have changed mine every 5k (or less!) and have never had more than a single drip, if that.

    THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

YOU NEED TO CALL TOYOTA CORPORATE AND DEMAND THAT THE ENTIRE DEALERSHIP STAFF AND THEIR PETS ARE MURDERED BY PAPER CUTS TO TEACH EVERY OTHER DEALER A LESSON IN COOSTUMER SCHERVECIE.

No need to remove entire TRD Skid plate to get to engine oil filter. Get axcess plate to remove, 4 countersunk bolts with Allen wrench.

@tacomalimited23 I have seen people install the oil filter on top of the old gasket accidentally thinking it came off when the pulled the filter.
    Just a thought.

Have you tried using a floor jack with a rag on the saddle to hold the Pro skid plate in place while re-attaching? This works for me when I need to re-attach my MillerCat shield.

Even when done correctly by a "pro", oil changes are a messy thing to do. And they are there to change the oil, not detail your splash pan. A few initial dribbles are nothing to worry about.

Epic bitch kind of. Impossible solo no. I lay it across my legs and jack it up using my legs. You can see just enough to line up the four front bolts to get them started. Then I crawl under both sides behind the front tires to get the other two bolts started. Tighten everything up and you're good. PITA but not impossible.

You took it to the dealer?
You let the dealer change the oil?

Get hard-style knee protectors, like flooring people do. Balance the skid plate on the hard-protectors to place front 4 bolts enough, then the last 2 and tightening is easy.
