U-Haul will rent you the moving truck and trailer.

Maybe not. Didn’t realize their trailer was that short.

The new ones are larger than older ones. They should have one that works.

Whats the distance of the tacoma wheel to wheel? Long shot but would it maybe fit if you loaded the truck on backwards? I've had to do that a few times with the tow truck. Obviously a good bit different then a trailer but just a thought.

The video title clearly states it excludes a double cab long bed, which the OP has. The U-Haul website says a DCLB is not a compatible vehicle when you select what you want to be on the trailer.

Oh, my bad. Missed that I guess. Is the older Taco as long as the new ones?

Yeah, 2nd and 3rd gen from 2005-2023 are basically the same truck with a different skin slapped on the frame.

I don't know the details of your move so this may not be applicable.

When we moved from CA to NC (13 years ago, so costs have changed) I looked at the cost of renting a Uhaul, car carrier, and extra fuel expense Vs. hiring a national moving company. The coast was not that far apart and given they loaded the moving truck (I had all the boxes packed), unloaded everything, and carried it into the house, we hired the movers. We drove the 05 Tacoma across the country and shipped my wife's car.

Penske car carriers are limited to a 128" max wheelbase so that won't work for you either.

Buy a used car trailer, sell it when you get done.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
If you have the cash, you could look for a good deal on a larger trailer that will fit your needs. Buy it, use it and then sell it at your destination. Don't bother to tell the rental company that you are hooking a trailer to the truck. LOL... In a couple of cases I have made money doing this that helped pay for my move. If you do this I recommend renting a 26' truck that can easily handle the tow as well.

Not saying this would happen, but my brother in law totaled a truck of mine many years ago doing this. He loaded it backwards on the trailer since the truck was dead and parked 'head on' into a parking spot, and when he hit a bumpy section of road along the way to the repair shop, the front of the trailer started bobbing up and down severely and he lost control and wrecked his tow vehicle, my truck, and his trailer. I learned an expensive lesson that night. If you do this, put weight in the bed so the tongue weight on the trailer is good. Plus if the truck loaded backwards overhangs the front of the trailer too much, it might clip the corner of the tow vehicle in turns (?).

If I was doing this, I would pack some necessities to put in the truck, hire movers to load / haul all the rest of my belongings, and enjoy a fairly relaxing drive in the truck to the new location.

I was told budget moving trucks offer a trailer that will work possibly wondering if that's true
