well I'm going to call it an early night. maybe if I'm lucky, get maybe 4-5 hours of sleep before something wakes me up. Night all!!!

I seen that party once, and once was enough.

I can remember two stories distinctly. Apparently all businesses in the quarter got the bright idea to charge out the wazoo for restroom access. And one of the cheapest toilets we found was in a second story adult novelty shop. There might or might not have been an impromptu lightsaber battle happening with some of the larger pieces of merchandise. And, whilst stumbling downstairs, one of my buddies blurts out "Hay! It's three dollars for the restroom, but the peep booth is only a dollar! You save money if you piss in there!" And I watched the wheels turn on the faces of the strangers climbing upstairs. One of them lights up and shouts "damn, dude, that's a genius idea!"

The other was that we might have been partying in the quarter, but we were staying in Baton Rouge. And that's a long haul over a horridly suspension-crushing causeway. Let's just say that I heard a very quiet whisper from the back seat of my brand new mustang "hey man, I need to pull over." I locked those damn brakes and flung open the passenger door in three seconds flat. Not fast enough. "Thanks for trying, but I'm already done."




Two weeks later, after multiple washings and shampooing of upholstery, my dad borrowed my car. He immediately yelled at me and told me to dial it back, because the car reeked of hot stale beer.

 

The ferry… there were several. I used to ride the Jackson St. by car. I paid the toll. I rode the gondola and can even visit one of them (M.A.R.T.) whenever I want. I rode a bus, then a streetcar, and walked a few blocks in 2nd grade to my dad’s office downtown. Something unthinkable in today’s world. The hippies and bikers were scary, but not today’s scary.

 

Dat be da Spillway… Da Causeway (longest bridge in da world) don’t go dat way. Da Twinspans is da other direction… to Slidell.

 

As an interesting factoid, New Orleans metro is bound completely by water. Spillway, Lake, River, another Lake.
