Has anyone waited 8 months for their 4th gen?

I placed my order for a Tacoma Hybrid Limited in early January. I've NEVER heard from my dealer since then. I've stopped in twice and was told I am next on the list 2 months ago. Anyone else gotten service this bad?

 

You don't or can't really place orders for these in an old school sense with the manufacturer. The dealers get allocations and they can search and trade them. Maybe you have what occurred with our closest dealer where they just did not have an allocation for exactly what I wanted nor was it worth it for the to make significant efforts to find it.

How I did get what I wanted faster was use the Toyota site search with a 500 mi radius and the Kiss My Gritts GitHub app. From that I found where landed vehicles were all over, regions that had more of what I wanted, and a not too far away dealer who had just about what I wanted in queue from trading their allocations.

For sure I had to have more labor and work on my own but it paid. I got the pickup in mid-July instead of the dealer saying maybe mid or late September. I was also $ thousands ahead. Dealers 45 to 90 minutes away had deeper discounts and better trade offers.

 

I waited 11 months for mine, but very much worth it.

 

I used an online broker named Jim, picked what I wanted from his list and never had to step foot in a dealer until pickup. Could have done delivery and totally skipped the dealer.

 

Is there something about your truck, other than being a hybrid, that makes it a unicorn? What dealer are you using?

 

He has a limited hybrid in bronze oxide available..

 

I waited a month for my reserved truck and kept searching on my own. I found out of state what i wanted mostly ( but not exactly ) but never went because I’m trading my tundra and 600 bucks in gas to just accept whatever they felt like giving for the trade didn't excite me. I ended up changing up my wishes and dreams for what they actually had at the port in Sandiego and chose from that. I figure i can trade it in in 2 years if selection ever gets better . And then if they do any upgrades fixes toyota should have them all ironed out by then.

 

Limiteds and hybrids are rare so its not a huge surprise.

We're just seeing them trickle in.

 

Hey Dan, did you put any deposit down with this dealer? If not why not make some calls or emails around to others near you? (Assuming you’re not on an island?) It doesn't sound like your first one is doing much leg work to earn your business. The Toyota website has an easy to use search function for all existing and incoming inventory up to 500 mile radius.

 

Sounds like you avoided getting a truck with transmission problems - good job!

 

There are 31 limted hybrids on the ground right now and here are the dealerships and the colors. Sometimes it is worth it to buy a cheap one way ticket and drive it back.

Thanks to all especially JB for the listings. I didn't pick anything special except I wanted Blue Crush Metallic Or Wind Pearl White. I am 70 yrs old and this is my first (and last) pickup. I like Toyota's reliability reputation but I heard this morning they've finally said what the issue is, transmission problems. No recall yet but they've released a TSB-0076-24 doc stating the possible issues with the transmission. Supposedly there was a range of vehicles manufactured with debris in the trans. They say they found the issue and it has been corrected. Search online for "Tacoma transmission problems" for a better description.
BTW, I put $500 down in January at the Suburban Toyota dealer in Farmington Hills Mi. I would fly somewhere and drive one home at this point but I guess I would forfeit my deposit?

What were the terms of your deposit? Did you get a receipt and deposit agreement? Since they took the deposit 5-6 months before they even could have had an allocation, I would demand a refund.

 

Do you absolutely have to have the hybrid? There are 73 Blue Crush and WCP out there. If you do not have to have the hybrid then there is one about 75 miles south.

I made a down payment for a Tacoma PRO in December. On August 23rd I was told the built is complete . Waiting on transport. Still waiting today 9/19/24.
