I have a fully built bmw f30 335i (510hp) and my lifted taco. Very different experience in each ride. I enjoy them both for different reasons. I do like sitting up higher in taco and being able to drive over pretty much anything though!

Pure physics, my guy. The more distance between the tarmac and your butt, the more it's going to wallow and roll. Some trucks tighten this up, but at the expense of making you feel like your suspension has less flex than a lock washer.

Reading your posts, Im not so sure that you'll be happy with a midsize truck.

If I were in your shoes... Get a performance wagon. An Audi Allroad or similar. Room to run errands, and you can still hoon it.

I've had several sports cars, and now a truck.

IMO, I wouldn't buy a truck with the thinking that I could turn it into the same thrill as you would get driving a fast sports car with a fast engine and low, tight suspension.

Complete apples vs. oranges. You need the right tool for the right job.

Most people that want the thrill of speed but also utility of a truck, smartly have one of each.

No, trucks simply don't handle like sports cars. Currently have a 911 and RR. The RR feels sporty for a truck, but doesn't feel confident taking fast corners even in Sport suspension setting. Great daily feel and very zippy, but I drive it like a granny. 0-60 around the same as the Macan 3.0TT we had some years ago, but that thing was AWD with Michelin PS4 SUV (295/40/20 rears) vs A/Ts and could rip around corners tightly and comfy as hell. Honestly, a solid sports CUV is a great compromise.

My old boss had a tuned Miata for track days and it was amazing. Handled better than my first Boxster in stock format. Don't knock them Miatas if you don't know what they're capable of.

And yet even with truck handling, I'm still probably going to get the 455hp/536tq factory warrantied tune just cause.

Don't buy a Taco, especially a new one (heavier), if you want to feel torque pull.... Unless you do a considerable amount of work to it

A lot depends on the tire. The skid pad experience in my Corvette Grand Sport was very different between the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and the Pilot Sport AS 4. The Cup 2 was super sticky in the summer. Never got close to breaking them free. The AS 4 was a better ride, but easy to break free.

I went from a dodge challenger r/t to a Tacoma at first I was so missing the power in my challenger and absolutely hated the power in the Tacoma 3rd gen . Over time I got used to the loss of power and at times I still miss it . But overall I love my 3rd gen . If you want something sporty a truck is not it . Unless u buy something like a raptor .

I know this is a Tacoma forum…. But since you asked…. A Taco isn’t and won’t ever be even similar to a Sports Car.

my daily driver is an F150 Lighting. Just a little shy of 600hp and 800ft/lbs of torque…. AWD and full four wheel independent suspension….

If you want a truck that’s close to a sports car…. This is it.

oh 0-60 in less than 4 seconds too.

Go get a V8, if you are accustomed to American V8 rear drive cars you want a V8. Regular Cab Short Bed F-150 V8 and add the super charger, it's going to take some effort to get any truck to handle close to a sports car. You could also find a V8 Ram Classic.

Anyone who makes fun of a Miata has never ridden in one that

    1) is even mildly prepped

    2) is driven by a EVO school graduate or instructor

If you prefer brute force, V8 conversions are available, so neatly done they are undetectable until you hear them run

    Check out Flying Miata

I don’t know if you’d consider it a sports car but in 2007 I sold my 2006 Pontiac GTO for a Tacoma. The GTO certainly didn’t LOOK like a “sports” car, but it had the 6 liter corvette engine in it and ran like a raped ape

Damn! Is that stock hp/torque or did you install a tune, smaller pulley, exhaust, intake, or ?

I went from Mercedes E550 to 3G now 4G. My life changed and I had different vehicle needs. The Benz to Tacoma was an adjustment as the Benz had 392lb ft of torque, but the Tacoma was fun for me to drive because it had awesome shocks and was a truck. So I would never compare them. Apples and oranges. Don’t expect the Tacoma to replace the power. It won’t. Thad said it’ll give you a different experience those American sports cars never will. Also, I’ve got the Tacoma hybrid now and it has a lot of torque and it feels like my old V8 Benz in some ways, especially off the line. But damn these new tacos are heavy and handle far differently from any car.
